Update for Pixie

November greetings to you, and to all Pixie’s friends!

A number of Pixie’s friends, old and new, came to visit this past month during the Chip or Treat event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Tabby’s Place. Our happy little lady cat graciously welcomed her visitors as her beauty, her personality, and her story made her a fitting representative of the sanctuary.

The medical list in October contained the kinds of maladies you’d expect in a group of cats: urinary tract infections (UTI’s), upper respiratory infections (URI’s), and various other infections and infirmities, but Pixie’s name wasn’t on that list, as she’s currently both healthy and happy. Just the same, due to her paralysis and incontinence she gets UTI’s often enough that, to stay on top of things, the medical staff is going to start testing her urine every month.

Last month when I visited Pixie, it took a while to find her. Not this time, though; I opened the door to the Community Room, and she was the first cat I saw, coming up to me as fast as her little legs could carry her. She greeted me with rubs and purrs, and quickly turned over to show her peach fuzzy tummy. I happily obliged her with a thorough rub, all the while murmuring words of affection. For several minutes, those were the only sounds in the Community Room, except for a trickling water fountain and the hum of the washer and dryer in the next room.

Those two machines get a workout every day. Even in the quietest hours, when the cats have been fed and are napping, volunteers are putting through loads of wash so all the cats can have clean bedding, along with diapers for those who need them. Often the sound of a dishwasher is added to the mix, both terribly unglamorous and absolutely necessary to caring for the cats who presently call Tabby’s Place home. Your much-appreciated support every month helps make the necessities of life like this possible, and at Thanksgiving with the Cats, coming up this Saturday the 17th from noon to 4:00 p.m, you’re invited to come (and don’t forget to bring a gift for the cats) and bid in a special mini silent auction.

The silence in the room was broken by human voices in the hall, growing louder and closer, and Pixie hopped up and scooted over to the door. Time to greet her latest visitors and receive their love and affection. And who knows, maybe she’d get to go into the lobby.

Wishing you all good things,
