Update for Pixie

Update for Pixie

Spring greetings to Pixie’s fans and sponsors!

Ready for another update, Pixie fans? There’s so much news about our girl this month that I hardly know where to start!

Medically, Pixie has been doing well overall. She had a day of nasty diarrhea since her last update; we think she might have eaten something that disagreed with her or something she shouldn’t have. Happily, the incident was brief enough that no medication was required.

Not long ago, I saw Pixie behaving aggressively toward lobby cat Patty. Now this behavior has also been observed by a staff member who, in the course of one morning, saw Pix unhappy with both Patty and Divya, who also resides in the lobby. It seems clear that Pixie is not a fan of all members of her own species. However, this behavior is unlikely to be much of a problem. Pixie is only out in the lobby during the daytime, when there are always people around who can intervene in a scuffle, and neither Divya nor Patty goes into the Community Room (where Pixie usually lives) at all. So it’s just something to note, though a bit surprising given Pix’s usually sunny nature.

If you recall last month’s news, our orange charmer had been taken for a test walk in a donated stroller — a very successful experiment by all accounts. But Pixie’s ride was temporarily put out of service; Charlie, one of our other cats who we thought would be a good choice for a stroller ride, enjoyed his outing immensely — but he was shortly thereafter diagnosed with ringworm, a highly contagious fungus. So the stroller had to be thoroughly decontaminated — and it was. But to prevent any such “crisis” from occurring again (well, if you were Pixie, wouldn’t that qualify as a crisis?), someone donated a second stroller. How lovely! Now, even if one stroller is out of service, Pixie need not forego her ride.

Given our girl’s great behavior with people, she was recently chosen as an ambassador for Tabby’s Place. Pixie is the very first cat to participate in our “Aged to Purrfection” Program, in which we take a cat off-site to visit residents of senior communities. I heard some wonderful stories about Pix’s first outing; it’s no surprise to us that she delighted so many people. We’ll keep you posted on how this goes.

As usual, a big helping of thanks to you for helping us keep this young lady happy and well cared for.
