Update for Olive

Update for Olive

Greetings, Olive fans!

It’s time to bring you another update on our girl!

It’s been a good few weeks for Olive; she has had no new medical issues crop up. Considering that she already has her fair share, we’re very pleased not to see anything else.

As a staff member puts it, “Olive is not a cat to mince words.” This young lady can be very vocal when she chooses. If you approach her with what she believes is medication for her, or with a towel in order to express her, or just at the wrong time, you’re going to hear about it. In fact, it’s possible that people at the other end of the building might hear about it, too. When Olive is upset or angry, she produces a surprising volume of noise for such a small feline.

Even Olive’s diapers are cleaned with love!

Not long ago, I went to Tabby’s Place to drop off some donations. Unhappily, I can’t go inside now (a limited number of volunteers are allowed inside due to COVID), but there’s a place outside the front door for donations. I looked in through the glass door and saw our girl busily scent-marking a coat rack. As soon as I brought my donations up to the front door, however, she stopped what she was doing and made her way to the door, trying her best to get her nose into these new (and apparently fascinating) items. Failing that, she started scrabbling against the glass with her front claws, determined to get to the food and towels one way or another. Luckily, the glass is very durable.

There have been many changes in the lobby over the past half-dozen or so months, the happiest of which involved the adoption of paraplegic Cotton. So there are a number of new residents in Olive’s territory (well, she believes it’s her territory). Olive appears to have no favorites, but given her history, we are accustomed to that. As long as the other cats keep out of her way (especially when food is involved!), she’s relatively tolerant of their presence. I’m not sure we should expect much more from our feisty girl!

I should mention that Tabby’s Place just launched our Annual Linda Fund Matching Challenge. A group of anonymous donors has come together and will match amounts donated by October 7th, 2021, up to $140,000+. If you have spare cash to pass along, great, but we remember that you already give to us on a monthly basis. So we’re asking if you might spread the word by telling your cat-loving friends, relatives, and acquaintances. Post it on Facebook! Make a YouTube video! Rent a giant billboard overlooking a major highway and have the information painted in letters three feet high! Well, OK, you get the idea.

As always, our deepest thanks for your caring and generosity.

Your correspondent,
Stephanie
