Lucky me, I have you!
The Your Feline Valentine Event was a wonderful day. Many nice people came to visit us even though it snowed. I’ve been feeling very healthy, so I was bright-eyed and ready to meet and greet!
Being the well-mannered cat that I am, I made an executive decision to give up my favorite chair for the day so that visitors could use it. I strategically positioned myself up in our nice carpet tower. This way, guests could easily see me, and I could greet them as they walked by! Correspondent Nancy said this was an excellent choice on my part. She also told me that she was very proud of me because I was so amiable and well-behaved with everyone I met.
I really enjoyed all the attention and pets. Even so, after three hours of excitement, I began to feel very sleepy. I tried my best to stay awake, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open one minute longer. I think people continued to pet my head, though, because I had very pleasant dreams.

I’m sorry to say that I didn’t win a Pull-It Surprise with my poem Stopping by Dish for a Second Feeding last month. It was a bit of a letdown, because those are some really good toys. I was hoping to win the one that you pull open and there’s a catnip surprise inside. Oh, well. Still, I will continue on my quest to become a more cultured cat and appreciate beauty in the world around me.
Coming on the heels of my foray into the world of poetry, it was purrfect timing that a relevant and really fun event took place this month. It was a literature event to celebrate Read Across America Week and the birthday of great American children’s book author Dr. Seuss. In my opinion, his book The Cat in the Hat is one of the best children’s books of all time!

The event took place on March 1st. It had such a clever name: Paws To Read – Read Across America Day At Tabby’s Place. Children came to read to us! There was a special appearance by the famous Cat in the Hat. There were snacks and prizes. I like to read very much because, as you know, I am a cultured cat. I also love to be read to. We all do! What a lovely time we had.
While we’re on the subject of fine literature, I’d like to tell you what I think is one of the finest books ever written. It’s called The Fur Person by May Sarton. It’s my absolute favorite. I can’t believe it isn’t on every must-read list.
In keeping with my appreciation of literature this month, I was inspired to search for a list of books that are recommended reading if you want to become more cultured. I don’t know about some of these novels. I can tell you for sure that I WON’T be reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I am not that kind of cat. I’m a very peaceful girl.

Another recommended book is A Passage to India. Some of the suites here at Tabby’s Place have a plexiglass passage that leads to a screened-in exterior room. I’ve heard these enclosed patios (or should I say “catios”) are pretty neat. You can watch comings and goings and birds. And there are space heaters, sun spots, toys, and comfy places to nap. I’ve been calling this room a solarium. Maybe I’ve been wrong, and it’s actually called an india. If that’s the case, this book interests me! We don’t have a passage in the lobby. I’ve always wondered what it’s like on the other side.

Many humans say that Hairy Potter books are their favorites. I wonder if they’re based on the exploits of a famous Persian Cat named Potter? Or maybe he’s a Maine Coon cat. They’re pretty hairy, too. I’ll have to look into this series. It could be good.
Are you a fan of March Madness? I am too! Take a look: I’m in the Meow Madness Tournament! We’re all talking about who’s going to make it to the finals.
These were my predictions for the final four:
Tabby’s Place Midwest – I think Bacon is a real sleeper in the tournament. Literally. I’m not kidding. He has a seizure disorder that prevents him from getting proper REM sleep. He dozes off a lot! But don’t underestimate the boy with the Elvis grin.
Tabby’s Place West – I think my new lobby friend Colonel Peabody will do really well. He’s fast, and he has very quick paws. He’s been known to snatch any kibble within reach with lightning speed.
Tabby’s Place East – Me! I’m a very composed competitor, and my “plus size” will help me box out. You know what they say: defense wins games.
Tabby’s Place South – I’ll have to give the nod to Pepita. She’s pretty speedy, yet has a calm demeanor. She won’t get overstimulated or grouchy (sorry, Olive) if it’s a close game.
Seems that I was a little off with my predictions. Can you believe my bracket got busted in the first round?!
While it would have been fun to win the Meow Madness trophy, I didn’t really need to. I’m already a winner because I have you. Thank you for being on my team. I consider myself a very lucky girl, on St. Patrick’s Day and every day.
Love,
Moo Moo
