Update for Mona

Dear sweet sponsors,

I hope that you are keeping warm during this chilly month. I have been quite comfortable in our toasty suite. Healthwise, I am doing well, and have a good appetite.

Speaking of food…guess what?? Our recently arrived suitemate Pyewacket has transitioned to a non-prescription diet. That is good news not only for Pyewacket, but for the entire suite, because it allows us to go from scheduled feeding to ALL DAY DRY FOOD!! Everyone is so happy and enjoying themselves with this new luxury.

However, to tell you the truth, I am a bit preoccupied thinking about my best friend Hocus.
Here’s what’s happening. At the end of last month, Hocus didn’t seem his usual self. He permitted lots of petting without so much as lifting his head. Our vet tech sprang into action and did X-rays immediately. Poor Hocus had kidney stones, which can be extremely painful, as well as a urinary tract infection.

It looks like Hocus will be spending an extended period of time in the hospital receiving fluid therapy and medication. But this is the part that really scares me… his X-rays also revealed something more sinister. Hocus has a small tumor on his lung. The only possible treatment would be major surgery, followed by weekly chemotherapy, all of which would very likely not help at all. Given Hocus’ age and fear of being handled, our friends at Tabby’s Place don’t believe it is in his best interest to put him through all these procedures.

Fortunately, our veterinarian believes that Hocus’ tumor is slow-growing. For the time being, he will be monitored very closely. He will have follow-up X-rays every two weeks. Please keep my dear Hocus in your thoughts. I hope that the food in the hospital is as good as the food in our suite! I am comforted by the knowledge that my friend is receiving the best care possible, and that he knows deep down how much we all love him.

On this Valentine’s Day, I send you my affection, as beautiful as gems and as lovely as flowers. I am forever grateful for your generosity and kindness.

Mona
