Update for Mona

Hello everybody!

It’s your friend Mona. I hope that you are feeling well and spending time outside in the beautiful summer days and evenings.

You’ll never guess who has been adopted…my roommate, Martha! So, once again, I am the only girl in the FIV+ suite. We were all so happy for Martha, and it gives us hope that there are people out there who would be pleased to adopt a cat with FIV.

I am learning to use the internet, and have found out some interesting facts about my medical condition that you might not have known:

The feline immunodeficiency virus is a slow virus that affects a cat’s immune system over a period of years. It is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines. FIV+ cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives, with no symptoms at all.

FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing.

In keeping with all this, I am happy to report that my own health remains good.

I am also happy to be spending time in the solarium each day, accompanied by my feline friends. Sometimes I watch the birds and the insects, sometimes the trees and the grass, and sometimes I meditate. I feel so good that I am becoming more receptive to humans. too, and allow them to pet me and have a nice chat.

In other news, the cuisine in our suite has changed recently. You may remember that we were all eating a diabetic diet for Charlie‘s sake. Well, now it turns out that Lester may have inflammatory bowel disease. This presents a challenge: Lester cannot eat the diabetic food, and Charlie can’t eat Lester’s food.

As a result, we will not be offered any dry food during the day now. (At night, Lester and Charlie will be crated with their prescription diets, while the rest of us can free-feed.) It doesn’t matter much to me, but my darling Hocus is concerned about the change. He loves to eat!

Well, time to get back to the solarium. Today, while I bask in the sun, I will meditate upon all the kindnesses that you shower upon me and all the cats at Tabby’s Place. I am so blessed to have you in my life!

xoxoxo,
Mona
