Update for Max

Update for Max

Hello, friends of Max.

It has been a month of continued adjustment for our fellow, and I am happy to report that Max is doing much better. He is exploring his new spacious surroundings, making feline friends, and enjoying all the human activity in the Community Room.

During my last visit, Max was sitting on a filing cabinet near the door, greeting each visitor as though he was a doorman! I sat down near him and offered encouragement to continue in this role. Together, we had a nice visit, welcoming each person who graced the doorway.

I understand from our wonderful staff at Tabby’s Place that Max lounges regularly on the conference table in the Community Room, especially during morning meetings. If the seats around the table are occupied, Max greets their occupants in a leisurely manner, then lays down in the middle of the table. His big green eyes take in everything going on around him. His noble streak tells him it’s OK to be the center of everyone’s attention.

All of this progress is huge for Max. I know I speak for everyone at Tabby’s Place when I say we could not be more proud of him. His initial reaction to his change of environment brought constant growling. Now, though, he meanders among his feline neighbors without so much as a snarl. To see our senior boy make such an adjustment is truly wonderful. I praise him each time I visit. I know I am not the only one telling him what a good boy he is these days.

On the health front, Max has continued to struggle with a stubborn urinary tract infection (UTI). Antibiotics caused Max to vomit and have diarrhea, so we added probiotic supplements to his diet. The infection and subsequent treatment may have caused Max’s minor weight loss in May. However, his appetite is good, and we are hopeful that he will regain the weight soon.

As always, thank you for your generosity to Max. Watching his progress this month, I kept thinking of the biblical admonition to “love thy neighbor as thyself.” I am very glad that, with our love and support, Max is learning this lesson very well.
