How I have missed my favorite feline fellow.
Max and I enjoyed a lengthy visit recently. It was like two old friends, catching up after not seeing each other for a long time.
I could tell he was happy to see me. Once we got comfortable sitting near each other, it was as if no time had passed since we were last together. That’s how it is with longtime friends. Max just happens to be a cat (but don’t tell him that).
So why had it been so long since I’d seen Max? My grandmother recently passed away at the age of 100. I’ve been on the emotional journey from the care-giving stage to funeral details. This has allowed little time to deal with my own feelings of loss, so my own delayed reaction took me by surprise. As I explained this to Max, his big green eyes looked deeply into mine. I felt that, in his own special way, he understood that something not-so-good had happened, but that my visit indicated that all would soon be well again.
I know I’m not the only person who visits Tabby’s Place for the comfort that our cats offer during difficult times. In this way, Tabby’s Place becomes a sanctuary not just for the cats, but for us, too.
Max has a few tales of his own to tell this month. Apparently, we may have given Max credit where it is not due for being so welcoming to new suite residents. Galadriel has been squabbling with Max over his perch. They have also been batting and swatting at each other. Then, as quickly as the duels start, they stop. Max is not ready to call any truces just yet, but we hope they ultimately make a lasting peace.
Our vet team continues to monitor Max’s health closely. They increased Max’s thyroid medication this month. He is eating and drinking water well, and he looks wonderful. I found his demeanor to be patient, kind, and welcoming. He would extend that same charm to you, if ever you should have a chance to visit Tabby’s Place.
Meantime, thank you or your love and support of Max. He truly paid that devotion forward this past month and helped to mend my broken heart with kindness. Max and I are very grateful you’re part of our Tabby’s Place family.
