Update for Max

Happy spring, Max supporters!

Ah, Spring! It is the time when the days get longer, the old become new again, the dormant awaken, and people happily embrace change. Yes folks, spring has sprung in the greater Ringoes metropolitan area — even at Tabby’s Place. As the flowers bloom and grass turns green, a great awakening has taken hold of Adoption Room #2, and it is the result of some pretty significant changes.

Last month, Max was very angry. He lashed out at everyone, including me. He just was not a happy guy, and it made me sad. This month, however, things have changed. The reason behind this change is simple: Angelo got adopted. Now, this is a big deal because, well, it is always a big deal when a Tabby’s Place cat finds his forever home, and I am very happy for Angelo, but it has definitely changed the dynamic of the room — for the better.

Angelo was such a great cat. He was loved by all: Trey saw him as his BFF; Cypress actually came out of her cat-cave, even when people were in the room, and treated Angelo like he was her love… and Max…. Even Max loved him in his own Max way. Apparently Max loved Angelo so much that Max was jealous of the attention Angelo paid Trey, and his jealousy manifested as aggression toward Trey and everyone else who crossed his path. That was why he was so angry.

Now that Angelo is gone, Max is once more the sweet loverboy I first met six months ago. Due to some personal issues I dealt with this month, I only visited Max once this month. I was very excited to see the new Max I had heard so much about, and he did not disappoint. When I walked in to the room, Max was perched atop of his cage. By the time I got to the cage, he was already purring loudly, and I had not even touched him. He happily head-butted me and rested his head against mine. His attention span was not as long as it had been in the past, but he definitely was happy to see me. It was just like old times. Cypress was in her cat-cave, unwilling to come out. Trey was snoozing before seeking love from me. Once I gave him love, Max got angry at both Trey and me and was done with the both of us. I guess the more things change…

I am very happy to report that all of this change has brought back the Max man. Encouraged by the change in his behavior, the veterinarian decided to cut the dosage of one of Max’s medications, with a reevaluation scheduled for later this month. The staff also decided not to introduce any other cats into Adoption Room #2, lest Max becomes agitated and aggressive again. I am very happy with the progress that Max has made.

Of course, none of this would be possible without your generosity. I truly thank you for everything that you have done. I hope you have an excellent month and are able to enjoy this beautiful weather. I look forward sharing with you next month more of Max’s progress. Until then, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Take care.
