Welcome to Cat Court.
Date: August 15th, 2013
Location: Tabby’s Place, Adoption Room #1
The Defendant: Max, also known as “Magnificent Max”
The Prosecution: The Wonderful Staff and Volunteers
The Charge: Violation of Tabby’s Place Noise Ordinance 101: i.e., Disturbing our (usual) Peace
Presiding Judge(s): Our Dear Sponsors
A noise ordinance is a law that regulates the amount, duration and source of noise in a community. It helps to define what is acceptable so that other (feline) residents can live comfortably.
As every community handles complaints along this line differently, it is always thought best to approach the neighbor in a kind and helpful manner. Has something changed in the household (i.e. Max’s suite) recently to cause upset?
Enter Tabby’s Place cat Gigi. Gigi is a senior gentlewoman of a cat, who was adopted, then returned to Tabby’s Place (through no fault of her own). Gigi was looking for a quiet, peaceful suite in which to recuperate from her life’s recent changes. Such changes are often more difficult for an older cat to handle. What better place than Adoption Room #1, we thought, with fewer cats, a nice couch and a great cat tree with plushly carpeted cubbyholes for afternoon siestas.

Max said that, like humans, cats sometimes like certain felines better than others. As you can see by the video presented for your consideration in this matter, Gigi kept taking Max’s favorite bed — and it is his perch, from which he nobly overlooks his suite, lobby and all activity at Tabby’s Place.
His photo, also submitted as evidence in this matter, shows that Max takes his role as overseer seriously. He asks in his own defense: “What was a cat to do? I was meowing loudly, because I was unhappy!”
Before this case made it to trial, the prosecution (our staff) moved forward and acted in this matter for the safety and sanity of all. After bearing witness to their mutual unhappiness and reviewing the taped evidence made by volunteer John, the staff made a decision to separate defendant, Max, and Gigi.
Not only will our noise ordinance once again be respected at Tabby’s Place, but Max will have his perch and bed back. Gigi is now residing in Adoption Room #3 with a very pleasant group of female felines who are all a little older, a little wiser.
Thank you, sponsors, for your support of our boy Max in this most delicate of matters. Your generous gift each month allows him to rule Adoption Room #1 and oversee Tabby’s Place with a nobility, style, and grace all his own. I was pleased that he chose me to defend him and that the wisdom of those who care for him daily at Tabby’s Place found a solution that allowed for a bit of peace for all.
Cat Court is adjourned!
