I am guest writing this month, and I am very glad to have the opportunity to get to know Max just a little bit better. I hadn’t visited his suite for a while, and this gave me the chance to meet all four of the felines in this suite. Most of the cats were happy to see me and curious to meet me, while some were slightly more hesitant.
Since Max is the only tabby in his suite, I was able to pick him out right away. (Unlike the suite of four black cats right next door – we should have a contest to see who could guess them all correctly the fastest!)
I sat in a chair to give the cats a chance to get used to my presence. Nobody stirred for a while, and I enjoyed the quiet moment. Eventually Max slowly got up and strolled over to meet me. He moved purposely and slowly, stopped to stretch and to scratch a scratching post. I waited as he got closer, chatting away.
Max then came over and sat very close. I pet him for a bit, and then he jumped up on the window seat. This window leads to the lobby, a fine place to watch the comings and goings of Tabby’s Place. I recalled seeing him sitting there in the past. He watched out the window for a bit, and then his attention came back to me.
We sat and stared at each other for a while. I noted how beautiful and stately he is, with his long, lean lion-like body and very distinct face. Max seemed to have a very defined jaw line, with an almost comically puffy and round mouth. He had a very serious look, though, and his bright green eyes seemed to say something. Whatever it was, he was very sincere about it.
It struck me that Max is a very regal cat. He did not show his court jester side to me, if indeed he has one. Which is not to say he doesn’t have a lot of personality, as he certainly does. I enjoyed my time with Max, and he left quite an impression on me. I had written down “regal” in my notes so I looked up the definition:
1. of or pertaining to a king; royal: the regal power.
2. befitting or resembling a king.
3. stately; splendid.
I think this definition does justice to how Max carries himself, and to his very distinct looks. Lions are kings of the jungle, and Max is definitely stately and splendid. I think I had found the right word to describe my new friend. When the other cats wanted attention and let me pet them, Max stayed in his seat and waited for me to come and adore him, which of course I did.
Thank you for your adoration and generosity towards Max. May you have a very happy holiday season.
