Update for Macaroon

Dear amazing sponsors of Macaroon,

As autumn approaches our black beauty continues to be her awesome self! Her health is quite good and she is as energetic as can be during my visits. Today she was sitting quietly when I entered her room but jumped up quickly when she eyed the toy I was holding. We played vigorously with that string toy, so much so that she decided not to let go of the little felt mouse at the end, gripping like a champ for quite a long time.

For years, staff and volunteers have grumbled about how difficult it is to photograph Miss Macaroon. I can attest to this myself. She is in constant motion once you engage with her, clearly not interested in sitting quietly to have her beauty captured for digital eternity. At last, however, a new volunteer has learned the trick. She tells us that a particular wand toy works magic. In her words, “It’s the only cat toy that rocks my cat’s boat. Apparently, Macaroon and others seem to be able to overcome their reservations to get a shot at it! ” See Mac in action with this magical toy in the pictures.

There are many black kitties at Tabby’s Place but none with the confidence and “in your face” love you get with Macaroon. As you know, there is much lore surrounding black cats. They are known for a special energy and connection with their human companions (notice I say “companions,” not “owners”). Mac definitely “connects” with all of her visitors!

Black cats were revered and often worshipped in ancient Egypt. Killing a black cat during this time was considered a capital offense and would often result in death. The Egyptians love for black cats was due to their belief that black cats were associated with the gods.

Black cats were even thought to give sailors special good luck when taken on a ship. The wives of fishermen would keep black cats at home in the hope that they would be able to use their influence to protect their husbands while at sea. And it is said that to dream of a black cat is lucky!

Black cats arouse passion. You might say of a tabby: “Oh, she’s cute.” But you say of a black cat: “How amazing, she looks like a panther!” Macaroon is a true black beauty with her loving, strong and overall amazing personality. We are so lucky at Tabby’s Place to have her cross our paths each day.

Our Tabby’s Place family thanks you for your constant love that enables us to care for and enjoy every minute with Macaroon.
