Update for Macaroon

Happy June, fans of Miss Macaroon.

What a month it’s been. As you know, our Mac has been transferred to a place of honor, Sanctuary Operations Manager Danielle’s new office. Mac also shares this space with some elderly cats, some not so elderly, but all zaftig felines.

Yesterday, I thought I would visit the office and see if I could get some movement out of the inhabitants. In the past, they have mostly (except for Macaroon) been asleep when I’ve been there.

I brought a laser pointer, that most intriguing toy (at least with my cats at home). First to greet me was Zencada, staked out by the door. Jackie, Reese and Zen were all out and about. Macaroon and Virginia were still in their breakfast crates (it was early). I played a bit with Zencada, who absolutely loved the pointer. She was skittering all over the floor and up the walls
chasing it. Mac and Virginia were interested, but couldn’t chase, as they were crated. Reese was slightly interested, but Zen kind of took over.

I decided to return later, after my volunteer shift ended. Well, we had a party. Macaroon was so excited with the play, running from one end of the office to the other. Zen, and even Virginia, age 14, joined the fun. Reese was quite shy and watched carefully, but didn’t engage. Of course, Jackie, the queen, stayed put on her chaise. She was probably thinking, “look at those idiots chasing a beam of light.”

We had a ball, and I think the exercise is good for Macaroon’s well-being. She chased the laser back and forth, up the walls and into the cat tree, trying to catch it with her with her immense paws.
Next time, I’ll bring a wand toy in addition to the laser. We’ll have another “office party.”

Mac seems to be very content, and she looks wonderful; her fur is all shiny, and she has lost a bit more weight. She’s really the sweetest cat and I love visiting with her.

Thank you ever so much for your love and support for our girl.
