November finds the lovely Luna feeling a bit under the weather. It’s nothing serious, of course—just a minor upper respiratory infection—but it has left her with quite a case of “snotty sneezes.” Everyone in the medical suite is quite glad to be wearing facemasks right now. You simply don’t want to be on the receiving end of one of Luna’s powerfully slimy blasts. Enough said!

Luna continues to be treated for facial flare-ups and, as always, she’s a real trooper. Month-by-month, we seem to get her symptoms a bit better under control. We have learned so much from Luna about treating allergies that we’ve accepted two new kitties from other shelters that face similar problems with allergies. Little Fiesta and Crunchwrap, both females, will benefit greatly from all the knowledge we’ve gained from caring for Luna. The vet team loves Luna so much that she will likely remain a resident of the medical suite even though she could join some other felines in the Special Needs suite. What would the vet team do without their favorite little lab assistant?
Speaking of work assignments in the medical suite, Luna has discovered a new interest. Each week, when our volunteer who cleans surgical instruments arrives, Luna is there to greet her. She loves to help with this important task and monitors it quite closely. And there’s the rub! Luna loves to brush up against cleaned implements and tools, just as much as she enjoys examining all of our other lab apparatus. Yes, we still employ cardboard barriers to keep her away from the most sensitive equipment, but Luna’s spirit of exploration and adventure is indefatigable. She was born to experiment and is simply a little scientific researcher at heart!
Despite any human intervention, Luna runs the medical suite with an iron paw. While she continues to tolerate Roxy, she isn’t interested in sharing her duties with any other lab assistants. While recovering from surgery before going to his forever home, we allowed a new kitty, Tyson, to explore the hospital. While he was very interested in meeting Luna, she would have none of it. She sat and stared at him for hours with a very irritated look and rebuffed all of his approaches. Shall we say, the “interview” did not go well? We are so happy to report that Tyson is now in his forever home.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and, just as Luna does, remember to count all of your blessings, of which you are first and foremost among them!
