Update for Kitten Fund

Dear kitten friends,

Kitten Season is the song that doesn’t end at Tabby’s Place this year. Our baby boom has continued with Tanzy, Midge, Ken, Piccadilly, Marceline, Beemo, Cake, Papillon, Stew, Ribbolita, Salem, Tutti, Mysha, Aisha, Jester, Lovely, Kindle and Nook. Got all that? If you answered yes, I am impressed.

Tiny Siamese Tanzy, pictured at right, is our youngest Special Needs cat. When she arrived at Tabby’s Place at one day of age, Tansy bore a swash of bite wounds from some larger beast. As best our vet can reconstruct, that beast picked the newborn up and shook her in its teeth. As a result, Tansy is paraplegic. But don’t feel too badly for the little fighter — she already has an ego the size of Siam, and a voice to match.

A second Special Needs baby joining our family this month was Salem, a long-haired black love bug with some sort of neurological birth defect. Our vet suspects bilateral vestibular disease, or, less likely, cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). We’ll have a more certain diagnosis pending consultation with a neurologist.

In terms of adoptions, this month we bid a happy farewell to Beamer; Jester; Gonzo & Beemo (together); Betty & Peggy (together); Roger & Joanie (together); Azalea & Satomi (together); Mysha, Aisha and their mother Fatima (together); Beaker; Lovely; and Marshall. Once again, did you get all that? No wonder we feel our heads are spinning!

Before she went to her forever home, I spent some beautiful time with Beemo and her sister Cake. They recently returned to Tabby’s Place from their foster placement, and when I introduced myself, Cake very politely demanded that I pick her up. She climbed to my shoulder, settled down, and proceeded to supervise Beemo’s petting turn. Both these girls are incredibly sweet (I instantaneously turned to mush in their little paws), and it must be genetic. Across the room, I could hear the exclamations of a volunteer who had been reeled in by Marceline, sister no. 3 (pictured below left).

Perhaps, as the end of summer draws nearer, the end of this remarkable Kitten Season will approach as well. Thank you for your generous support, especially this year when we have been inundated with over 50 fuzzy, mewling, adorable little kittens. They all thank you, too!
