Update for Corey

This is Jonathan, Founder and President of Tabby’s Place.
Though Melissa is Corey’s official correspondent, I am writing this update in the interest of getting you crucial information in a timely manner.

Since we found out that Corey was in heart failure, we have been keeping an especially close eye on him .
This past Friday, we noticed that his breathing was beginning to sound labored and raspy.
So we drove him down the street and had our favorite local vet examine him.

She x-rayed his chest and reported that his heart was changing rapidly and the heart failure was advancing more rapidly than she had hoped.
She suggested some modifications to his medications in hopes of making him feel better.

Corey seemed stable on Saturday, but was deteriorating by Sunday, so we had one of our in-house vets examine him.
She thought that it would be a matter of days before we would have to let Corey go, as his breathing was failing with each day.

When I came in this morning, I went to look at Corey and I didn’t like what I saw.
He seemed to be having a difficult time getting air in and he wasn’t able to get comfortable.
He was trying to lie down, but would keep shifting his position, restlessly.
This is a typical sign of pain or discomfort in a cat.
I watched him a for a good while to be certain.
It became obvious that it was time to let Corey go.

I took Corey to the local vet who knew him well (as he made many emergency visits there).
The staff there all knew and loved Corey and said goodbye to him as he went gently in my arms.

As his supporters, you know the special place that Corey had in people’s hearts.
He was a favorite of many employees and volunteers at Tabby’s Place.
Despite his many problems, he never failed to show a positive attitude and he was gentle and appreciative of the human attention he recveived.
Corey had been with us for over a year. It is the end of an era for us and it will never be the same without him.
I have included my favorite photo of Corey — showing him resting peacefully.
We love you and miss you, Corey. Rest in peace.
