Update for Cisco

Happy Holidays Cisco fans!

You might not think of Cisco as a Christmas-spirit kinda guy, but one of our volunteer photographers recently brought out his sense of wonder. (OK, she at least got an adorable photo of him with Christmas decorations. We’ll take what we can get.) He was also quite accepting of his faithful correspondent taking his picture. He probably knew I had some treats, and just figured let’s get this photo shoot over with so I can get my well deserved snack!

He was very interested in treats and somewhat accepting of being pet. Somewhat. I gave him a treat, then pet him on the back and waited to see how he reacted. It was going well, and then after the 5th treat, smacko! It was supposed to scare me, and make me go away, but it didn’t work. I left my hand right where he had “smacked it”. And he was okay with that. It was such a gentle touch of his paw, no claws bared. Cisco is truly a gentle soul, slowly coming out of his hard, protective shell.

Cisco’s suitemate and official FIV suite greeter, Wolfie the Wolfman (below) has happily finished his most recent round of ringworm treatment. He has been sprung from quarantine and is adjusting to being back in the FIV suite. He’ll be his old self in no time!

There’s a new suitemate coming for Cisco; pale marmalade cutie Knickers is just starting his quarantine period.

Unfortunately, Cisco’s diabetes has been less than merry this month. His blood glucose (BG) levels have been very unstable, lurching from dangerously low to sky-high, and Cisco’s appetite has been poor. We try to spare Cisco any unnecessary BG checks, as he hates being handled and becomes extremely stressed, but at this point we need to conduct a BG curve. This involves testing Cisco’s blood multiple times over the course of a day, to see what his BGs are “doing” at different hours. This will help us to determine the best insulin dose and course of action for our boy.

Dear sponsors, your gift to Cisco is beyond generous. It is a gift filled with love that makes it possible for us to care for this sweet boy. We could not do all that we do for him without you in his world. At this time of year, we reflect on the year behind us, and our hearts are filled with gratitude for your support.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday and all the best in the new year!
