Happy Thanksgiving Month Greetings to Cisco’s Sponsors,

Happy November to you and yours! The leaves are finally falling all around us, having held on for quite a long time this year with unusual warmth in the start of our autumn. This means that Cisco and all his FIV suite friends have been enjoying more solarium time this fall. What’s not to love? He has an abundance of fresh air, sunshine, soft and comfy heated beds, and high perches to check out the wildlife.

Our handsome boy has been making some increased noises from his upper airway this month, most likely a flare-up of his chronic herpesvirus. He’s not exactly a delight to medicate, so we’re hoping we can control this by adding an amino acid supplement to his food. But, rest assured that we’ll tangle with Cisco if necessary, making sure he gets whatever he needs to recover. For now, we are carefully monitoring him for any nasal discharge or signs of a more significant issue.

Cisco’s suitemate Wolfie has taken over as the official Suite FIV greeter. He continues to be a charmer and loves to play. Here, he was being a big mush, as he was getting his much sought after attention. He is a very sweet boy.

Cisco and all of our FIV+ cats enjoyed some contraband chow this month, as some of our well-meaning volunteers have mistakenly distributed non-prescription treats. We’ve gently reminded our team that the kindest thing to do really is to respect the diet restrictions — no matter what the cats say!

While abiding by those rules, I encouraged Cisco to step forward from the corner he had wedged himself into, and accept a treat that I gently placed a few inches in front of him. He was up for the challenge. This is a huge success for Cisco and me. The picture above doesn’t particularly flatter our sweet boy, but it captures that he was stepping forward, away from the back wall. That is a really good sign, for Cisco, and for all of us. He is starting to trust our species a little more.
