Update for Charlie

Welcome to March, my loves!

I am so looking forward to the beginning of spring here in New Jersey. I need some sunshine and warmth
after all the crazy snowstorms we’ve had here lately. As you can see from the picture of myself I’m attaching this month, I’m spending much of my
time snoozing in the coziest spot I can get my furry paws on. I’ve had a bit of a tough month with my health, so I’ve needed my rest.

My vet team was surprised when I dropped a notable amount of weight, considering they sometimes kid me about my great grey girth. Of course they
did a full physical exam and bloodwork right away to check on me. My thyroid levels don’t yet require any treatment, but my thyroid gland has become more palpable. This is a likely sign that I’m on the road to the most common and treatable “old-cat disease” called hyperthyroidism, meaning that my thyroid gland is overactive. This could explain my weight loss, but they’ll continue to monitor my thyroid without medication for now. My bloodwork also revealed that my fructosamine was high. (Fructosamine levels are a typical way of

measuring long-term blood glucose control, which is always monitored for diabetic kitties like myself.) I’m now on a higher insulin dose to address that issue. Finally, my urine test showed (sadly) that I have a urinary tract infection, which I’m being treated for with simple antibiotics.

You can see that it hasn’t been my healthiest month, but everything is easily treatable. And thanks to your generosity, I have every opportunity to receive the absolute best medical care possible, and I’ll be just fine. There are no words to express my gratitude for you, my beloved sponsors!

If you live close enough to visit Tabby’s Place, please do stop in to give me some extra hugs if you have time. My scribe and I had some snuggle time this week, but my roomie McNulty kept trying to bust in on our love session. How dare he?! Good thing my scribe has two hands and could spare one to pet McNulty too. But she only has one lap and of course I had instantly
hijacked it for myself! Paws crossed, spring will have sprung before my next update to you. Until then, stay warm and cozy wherever you can.

I am sending you joy and love from my heart to yours. Thank you for all you do for me!

Peace, love, and purrs,

Charlie
