Update for Charlie

Happy June to you!

The warm weather and long hours of summer have arrived at Tabby’s Place, and we kitties are soaking it all in. I have been spending more time outside with my roomies, and snoozing in the plentiful cozy beds in between visits from staff and volunteers.

Most times, these visits involve food and snuggling, both of which are my favorite. Every once in a while, of course, a visit involves something like an insulin injection, but as you can probably guess, I’m quite chill about even that. I know it’s only because everyone loves me and wants me to live the happiest, healthiest life I can.

In fact, this past month, our vet team tested my blood glucose (BG) level several times over the course of one day. This is called a BG curve, and the vets do it every so often to observe what patterns emerge. Based on the results, the vets may adjust my insulin dose. I’m told that my BG levels were a bit higher than the vets would like, but they weren’t enough to warrant an increased insulin dose. You see, when it comes to cats, the acute risk of a low BG far outweighs the benefits of preventing chronic high BGs. So the staff here will continue to monitor my weight, since weight loss can be an early sign of poor BG control, and they’ll repeat my BG curve in six months.

Aside from all that medical stuff, life is good, and I’m a happy boy. As you can see from my photo, I am once again in my scribe’s lap as we write this month’s update.

I’ve witnessed several adoptions of kittens and adult cats over the past month, and a few folks have seriously considered my roomies as well, which is fantastic! Kitten season is in full swing here in New Jersey, and we’re having a Kitten Shower this weekend to hopefully find loving forever homes for all those adorable babies. The cuteness is truly almost too much for the humans to take. I can hear humans squealing with joy when they enter the kitten room that’s across the lobby.

We’re also in the midst of our annual Linda Fund Matching Challenge, which means that all donations given through our home page will be matched through 6/27, which is simply amazing. Linda Fund donations go towards the emergency and specialty care of our neediest cats, and I know that special needs sponsors like you are some of our most generous donors, so thank you from the bottom of my grey furry heart!

I hope you are at the start of the best summer you’ve ever had, and please remember that I’m appreciating all your love and care every day. Enjoy June wherever you are, and I’ll be sending you kitty hugs!

Peace, love, and purrs…
Charlie
