Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friend,

Carrot had another peaceful month, which he seems to be enjoying. There are only 6 cats in his room at the moment, and I think he is liking the space and quiet. Also, with fewer cats in the room, whenever someone comes to visit his room, he gets more attention.

We did move one of his friends out of Carrot’s room, Elijah. We did this because of Elijah’s breathing difficulties, and there was some mold in the closet in the room (more on that in a minute). Elijah always has some breathing issues, and we didn’t want to get worse, so we moved him to be on the safe side.

Carrot still has a few friends though, so I don’t think he minds Elijah moving out. The only cat in his room that he doesn’t really get along with is Sketch, who is fairly new to his room. Sketch gets cranky if any of the cats come near her, so they usually just avoid her.

Recently we noticed that the closet in Carrot’s room was damp, and some mold was starting to form inside the wood. It was not something we could fix, so we had to have the closet torn out of the room. At the moment the cleaning supplies from the closet are just in the hallway (so the cats can’t get at them), but we will be replacing the closet soon.  Carrot’s room looks weird without the closet in there, and the room looks bigger, but we need a closet for all the supplies needed to take care of cleaning in that room.

We currently have over 40 volunteers who are part of our Comfort Buddies program (cat socializing), which is so good for the cats, and it makes sure they all get lots of attention. These volunteers are very dedicated to making sure all the cats get lots of pets and attention (well, the cats who want attention anyway). Seven days a week volunteers are assigned to give our cats love and attention and Carrot is always at the front of the line demanding lots of pets.

The 40 socializing volunteers are just the ones assigned to this task, but all the other volunteers give them plenty of attention, too, while cleaning their rooms, feeding them, or just passing by their rooms and stopping by for a visit. Our cats are very lucky to have such a wonderful group of volunteers who love them so much.

We had some nice days this month, so Carrot did enjoy a few stroller rides. The stroller program will be back in full swing soon, with spring right around the corner.

I went into Carrot’s room the other day to say hi to him, and as I walked over to where he was sitting, he threw himself over and started rolling around. It was incredibly cute, and I wish I had my camera with me. We enjoyed some pets and rubs, and he was purring like crazy. I love that boy.

Carrot’s health has been great, with no issues at all, which we always like to hear. Our boy is happy and healthy.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you so much for your support of Carrot, as we couldn’t do this without you.
