Update For Carrot

Dear Carrot Friend,

Carrot had a good month and has enjoyed just staying at Tabby’s Place, and not going on any visits. It’s still so strange to me that he stopped enjoying these visits because he absolutely loved them for a long time. But we must respect his wishes, and let him do whatever he is comfortable with.

It has been a bit cold this month, so our stroller-walking volunteers have not been walking the cats much lately. Carrot got a few strolls on nicer days, but he would definitely want more. We will have to wait for the spring now, and just sneak in nice days when we can.

Carrot has actually been inside the suite quite a few times lately. I guess it is too cold for him outside in the solarium at the moment. He still goes out there often, but it is for short visits and then he comes back inside. His friends are doing the same thing too, just visiting the solarium for a short time, then going back inside where it is warm.  We do have heated beds out in the solariums, but on very cold days that doesn’t help much.

Carrot’s big news is that he is no longer hypercalcemic! This is great news, and it also means he does not have to be crated overnight anymore, to prepare for his blood test the next morning (it had to be fasting bloodwork). This is such good news for Carrot because he does not like being in a cage for any amount of time.

A few of the cats in Carrot’s room have been gaining too much weight (I’m not naming any names… Wilbur…. Alex), so we stopped leaving dry food out all day, and only put it out at night now. At lunchtime, we put several enrichment puzzle feeders in the room with kibble in them. Carrot is very good at fishing out all the kibble morsels, and he seems to really enjoy the challenge.

Carrot was seen going after poor Denali a couple of times. Denali doesn’t really like the other cats and she would prefer to be left alone. If a cat comes near her, she will growl and hiss, which seems to make Carrot angry, and he will let her know he is not impressed with her sounds.

Carrot loves squeeze-up treats!

If I walk into Carrot’s room, and someone else is already in there, I can guarantee Carrot will be on their lap. A few of our volunteers make sure to visit Carrot whenever they are at Tabby’s Place, and they all spend time with him, petting him and letting him sit on their lap for as long as he wants to.

The other day I noticed one of our volunteers had Carrot on his lap, and they were having a snuggle session. I came back about 30 minutes later and they were in the exact same spot. We have such wonderful volunteers who always make time for whatever the cats want from them. In the photo, you can see Carrot enjoying a nice squeeze-up treat, one of his favorites!

That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you so much for your support of Carrot.
