Dear Carrot Friend,
Carrot had a pretty good month, aside from the drama in Suite C. Oscar has been causing trouble in the suite and has been noted fighting with Carrot (and a few others in his room) several times in the last month. Oscar has been going out into the solarium a lot and picking fights with Carrot, Conga, and a few others. One time he chased Carrot up the ramp, through the tunnel, and into the suite. We do have Oscar on behavior medication, but he is still picking fights.
The other cats in the room seem to be getting along okay, and they all try to go out to the solarium to get away for a while, but Oscar has been going outside too, so it doesn’t help. Hopefully, things settle down soon.
Carrot has been getting a few stroller walks lately, and with the weather warming up, Carrot will be getting more and more stroller walks. Our volunteers love taking Carrot outside because he loves it so much.
We are in the process of adding a new senior home to our Aged to Purrfection program. This senior home has reached out to us and asked if we would be willing to bring cats to visit. We were very happy to add a new home, and have more cats to visit more seniors. For the first trip to this new home, which is happening this week, Carrot and Rose are going to check it out.
Carrot was mentioned the other day by a volunteer as “the Aged to Purrfection expert.” Carrot and Rose are the two cats that are known as being great for this program because they both are so mellow, and really enjoy their visits, so they are good cats to send for a first visit.
Carrot has enjoyed a healthy month, and his eye issues of last month seem to have resolved. His weight was noted to be down a little this month, but nothing that causes concern.
We keep growing our cat socializing programs, and Carrot and friends have had many visitors lately. This is the most visitors we have had since before the pandemic started, and the cats are loving it! Between visitors and new volunteers, the amount of people visiting the cats is significantly more. Our former program, Comfort Buddies, is back in full swing now, and we had a lot of volunteers sign up to join this program. Cats such as Carrot are in the Comfort Buddies program, as this is for cats that enjoy attention from people and won’t swat or hurt anyone who visits them. Carrot and his easy-going friends are part of this program, and I have seen a lot of people spending time with Carrot in the last few weeks. I know Carrot, and all the cats, really appreciate all the extra attention.
We do have another program for our challenging cats, called BFF (Befriending Fearful Felines). Cats in this program can be very shy or feisty, so to be in this program volunteers need to attend a class with our cat behaviorist. We still don’t put very violent cats in this program, because we don’t want anyone to get hurt.
In other news, by now you know that Tabby’s Place is building an expansion called Quinn’s Corner, for vulnerable cats with feline leukemia virus (FeLV). As we prepare to open our expansion later this year, our need for volunteers increases. Volunteers are a huge part of our operation, as we could not run Tabby’s Place without them.
Beginning in May, we will launch an intense volunteer recruitment campaign to find those willing to give the gift of time and make an impact on the lives of our cats. If you know of anyone who would be interested in volunteering (perhaps even you!), please let them know we will soon be reaching out with more details. (They can sign up to receive our emails here; scroll down to the “subscribe” box.) There are many types of volunteer duties to fit diverse abilities and schedules.
Thank you, as always, for helping to spread the word about Tabby’s Place!
That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you so much for everything you do to support our wonderful Carrot.
Your correspondent,
Karina
