Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friends,

Carrot and I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and we hope your new year is off to a great start.

Carrot had another busy month. Even though the weather has been cold, Carrot still enjoyed many stroller walks. We already know the cold doesn’t bother Carrot, because he still goes into the solarium, so a stroller walk certainly doesn’t make him too cold. A few of the other cats who enjoy stroller walks are older cats (like Walter, Stafford, and Tux), so they don’t go outside on the colder days. That just gives the diehards like Carrot a chance to have even more stroller walks.  Hopefully, the weather doesn’t get really bad, and the cats can still get their walks. They really enjoy it, and it is so good for them to get attention and enrichment.

Due to the pandemic, we are still locked down at Tabby’s Place. We have about a third of the number of volunteers we usually have in the building, which is why the stroller volunteers have been such a blessing for the cats.  These are volunteers who are not working inside the building but get a chance to interact with the cats through the stroller rides.   When things go back to normal I still plan to have stroller volunteers continue with the Curbside Volunteering Program. I think it’s great for the cats to get outside and enjoy the stimulation. I also think the volunteers enjoy it, and it gets the volunteers some exercise, too.

Carrot lost a bit of weight this month, and also had one episode of a bloody nose. We monitored this carefully, and it did not repeat, thankfully. For the weight loss, Carrot had a full work-up with our vet team, but all of his tests were within normal limits. Our Carrot is in good health and in great spirits, so that is a relief. Carrot would like to say that he isn’t getting enough treats, so that is why he had some weight loss!!

Something else Carrot would like to report:  there has been someone peeing around the room in Suite C. The offender has pee’d on blankets, sprayed the door into the hallway, and pee’d in the cubbies. We finally found the culprit, and Carrot would like to announce it is Wilbur! Carrot and his friends like a clean room, so they have no problem letting everyone know it is Wilbur who is doing the inappropriate eliminating. Carrot suggested taking away Wilbur’s treats, and—of course—giving them to Carrot.

Carrot is such a good boy these days for having his bladder expressed. He used to run away, but these days he runs to me. This makes things much easier because he’s fast when he wants to run away.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. Thanks to your generosity 2020 was a good year for Tabby’s Place, in a time when we are very concerned about donations and the care of the wonderful Tabby’s Place cats. Thanks to you we didn’t have to worry, and the cats could have everything they needed. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and your friendship. We literally couldn’t do this without you, and we appreciate you so much.
