Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friends,

You know it must be cold outside when you find Carrot inside the suite, and not out in his solarium. Over the last week I have found Carrot inside more often than outside, so it must be cold! Even Faye has been inside, and she loves the solarium as much as Carrot does. The only one who refuses to come inside, no matter how cold it gets, is Sparkly. We have winter-proofed the solariums now, so they all have heated igloos, heated beds, and heated water bowls. We also covered the front of each solarium with a clear tarp, so the wind and snow does not blow inside.

Even with all our winter-proofing, it’s still cold out there, so most of the cats only go outside for short periods of time. Carrot, Faye, Elijah, Stella and Pancake still go out, but only for about a half hour, then they retreat back inside to warm up.

Carrot went back for another visit to the senior residential home, and had a wonderful time. Rose accompanied him again; those two really know how to entertain the room! They sit on laps, they’re petted, they stroll around, and, most important, they bring a lot of happiness to the seniors.

Carrot and friends really seem to enjoy their new role as therapy cats, and it’s really good for them. They get a lot of enrichment going to new places, seeing new people, and getting lots of love and attention. And seeing the smiles on the faces of all the seniors they visit really warms the heart.

Our senior program, “Aged to Purrfection,” was featured online. You can read about it on NJ.com here.

Lately Carrot has developed a new — and very adorable — habit of running to (not from) staff members when it’s time to express his bladder. I must say I have been pleasantly surprised by this new turn of events, and still keep thinking he will run away when I enter the room. This habit began a couple of weeks ago, and it seems like this is Carrot’s new thing to do. I shouldn’t be surprised; it’s so very “Carrot” to be cooperative and cheerful!
Carrot has enjoyed a healthy month, with no issues to report. He is still on the lunch list, so he maintains a good weight, and Carrot thoroughly enjoys his lunch.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. Carrot and all the staff at Tabby’s Place would like to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season, and we’ll return with more Carrot adventures in 2019.

Happy Holidays!
