Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friends,

Carrot had a fun month that involved lots of children! Since Carrot is a child at heart, he seems to like small humans.

We started a new program recently at Tabby’s Place called Paws to Read. Kids come to Tabby’s Place to read to the cats. It has benefits for both kids and cats; kids who won’t normally read seem to really enjoy reading to the cats, and the cats love the extra attention. One of the moms burst into tears upon seeing her son reading happily to the cats, as he has completely refused to read otherwise.

Carrot enjoys reading time and happily lounges nearby listening to the stories. In the picture at right, you will see Carrot on the top of the cubes, looking relaxed and enjoying the story. Carrot even stayed in the suite to listen, and didn’t go back to his solarium until story time was over.

A family came to visit Tabby’s Place the other day, and they took a tour of the facility. They had a small child with them, and when they got to Carrot’s solarium, the child immediately fell in love with Carrot. As you can see below left, she even offered to share her bottle with him! Carrot seemed quite interested, especially since there was milk in the bottle. Of course, Carrot was charming and sweet, and made the girl very happy.

Carrot is getting ready to hold a big party in Suite B. Misty, his longtime nemesis, looks to be headed to her forever home. To everyone’s amazement (especially Carrot’s), this sweet-but-cranky older girl is on hold to be adopted. Carrot will be very happy to see her leave, as they never really got along.

Hank is also out of Carrot’s suite for a few weeks while we adjust his medications. His current behavioral meds are not working, and he is still very aggressive with the other cats. We first have to wean him off the current medication, and we can’t have him in the room with the other cats while we do this, as he will get even more aggressive on no meds. Hank is having a wonderful time being alone. He is currently in our feral room on his own, and he absolutely loves it! When he returns to the suite, hopefully he will be a calmer Hank.

There’s no medical news for Carrot this month, which is always a good thing. Carrot remains in good health; he is enjoying this hot weather; and he loves hanging with his friends in the solarium.

Thank you so much for your continued support of Carrot. We could not do this without you, and Carrot sends a head bump to you all.
