Dear Carrot friends,
It has been quite an eventful month for our Carrot. His girl, Valencia, was adopted with another Tabby’s Place cat, Virginia. I am so happy for both of these girls; they really deserve a home of their own! Carrot has been in a different room from Valencia recently, so he has already been moving on, and making new friends.
Now it looks like Carrot has found a new girl; our sweet, but shy girl, Sparkly. Suddenly Carrot and Sparkly are inseparable. They are both spending most of their time in the solarium, and are often found snuggling on the large cat bed. They usually have the whole solarium to themselves; I think it’s still too cold for most of the cats. Carrot and Sparkly don’t seem to mind the chilly days, and seem to like having time alone together. I’m so glad our Carrot found another friend, and it’s great to see the bonds they form with each other. I’m also happy for Sparkly. She has been with us for a year and a half, and had not managed to make a friend yet. She’s very shy, and usually hides and keeps to herself. Carrot is already giving her the confidence to stay out in the open, and snuggle with him, as long as the humans don’t come too close.
The other cats in Suite C are very happy that Carrot is spending most of his time out in the solarium with Sparkly, because when he was hanging out in the suite more, he was starting fights. Our sweet Carrot can be quite the bully. He does only pick on the more aggressive cats (I like to think it makes him angry when they are being mean to the other cats). Carrot is always nice to the mellow, shy cats.
The other day, during a bad snow storm here in New Jersey, we didn’t have many volunteers who were able to get in to help, so I was cleaning in the suites and solariums. I went into solarium C, where Carrot and Sparkly hang out. Carrot was rolling all over the bed (I was close, so Sparkly had run to hide). Carrot insisted I stop cleaning for a while to give him some attention. He was rolling and rubbing my hand, and soaking up the attention. Suddenly, he grabbed my bracelet in his teeth and started pulling hard! I quickly stopped him before he broke it. Luckily, he was happy to go back to being petted, and forgot all about the bracelet.
That’s all the Carrot news for now. Carrot and Sparkly send everyone headbumps. Ok, Carrot does — to be honest, Sparkly is hiding under a chair.
Thank you all for everything you do for Carrot! We couldn’t do this without you.
