Update for Bialy

Hi to Bialy’s sponsors,

I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Beverly and I am going to be Bialy’s regular correspondent. I’ve fallen in love with him, as I’m sure you have. He seems to be oblivious to his medical difficulties and does everything that a normal kitten does, just a little more awkwardly. He also is also very sweet and loving. He adores being petted and getting his tummy rubbed.

On the medical side this month, we heard an encouraging word from Bialy’s neurologist: the doctor is not suspicious of that fearsome FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Still, we are monitoring Bialy for any seizures or neurological signs, just to be sure. (He hasn’t had a hint of either, thankfully.) The longer he continues thriving with no serious ill effects, the more likely it is that he will be able to live a long, happy, relatively unimpaired life despite his hydrocephalus.

Earlier this month, Bialy had a bout of conjunctivitis (inflammation of the membrane lining the eyelid), which we’ve been treating. He was also noted to have a strange lump on his nose. It doesn’t seem painful or in any way dangerous, it’s just…odd. (Even the neurologist reported that he has “no idea” what that’s about.) Fortunately, it is apparently nothing to worry about – and “worry” is definitely not on little Bialy’s agenda.

I’ve been working in the Community Room on some mailings the past month and had a good chance to spend time with Bialy and watch his antics. He considers everything to be a toy: curly strips from rolls of stamps, tops to glue sticks, piles of envelopes – all fair game for Bialy. He loves crawling into a rustling nylon tunnel and wriggling around.

He also seems to be getting stronger and, need I say, bigger. He can get onto the conference table all by himself, maybe using a few chairs as steps in the process, but why quibble. That’s important, since some of the best food resides on the table, at least from Bialy’s viewpoint. This month’s photo shows him lolling in a cat bed atop the table.

And there’s no doubt about it – Bialy and our paraplegic cat, Tashi, were born to be best friends. In fact, little Bialy and his “weird Uncle Tashi” are rarely seen apart these days, and they absolutely love wrestling and squealing at each other. (Sometimes we overprotective humans worry that Tash might put Bialy’s entire head in his mouth, but Bialy has shown that he can take care of himself just fine.) Take a look at the short video of them wrestling that I took this past week.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to spending more time with Bialy in the coming weeks and sending you future updates.
