Update for Bellis

Update for Bellis

Greetings to Bellis’ sponsors,

Well it’s June, the month in which Bellis’ potential adopter was planning to bring her home. The news on this front is bittersweet. With a great deal of thought and prayer, that potential adopter has decided that it’s not the right time to add another cat to her family. While we would have loved to see our little belle in a home of her own, more than a few of us are grateful for a little more time with Bellis. (And, as usual, a constant stream of visitors wistfully remark, “Oh, I would love to take her…” It’s just a matter of time before one of them does.)

Bellis took the news in stride as always, not sure what all the fuss is about a home, when all is perfectly fine here at Tabby’s Place, surrounded by love and fun. Fun was actually the subject of this update for me. I think I have spent a lot of time talking about Bellis having special needs and how she does just fine without her vision. What I fear I have failed to mention is that she actually does spectacularly, happily, merrily well.

As if Bellis knew what I was thinking, on my last visit she was all vim and vigor, playing, pacing and looking for trouble. I captured a picture of Bellis playing with a toy, just as any other cat would. It was great fun to visit Bellis and play and laugh and remember that regardless of one’s shortcomings, troubles – whatever state of mind, playing and laughing and carrying on feels great.

In terms of health, Bellis has had a quiet and happy month. One morning the staff had a scare when they arrived at Tabby’s Place to find Bellis peacefully sitting on a couch, next to dozens of clumps of orange hair. The first concern was that she might be pulling out her own fur. However, they soon realized that this hair was the result of a battle royal between Chance and Boots (in which the big marmalade guy clearly lost; but not to worry, he is just fine).

Thanks to you, dear sponsors, Bellis plays on in her temporary home at Tabby’s Place, blissfully unaware that there might be something else, out there, a family of her very own. And they are out there somewhere, and they are so lucky.

Enjoy summer, my friends, and play in the sand and the sun.
