Update for Bellis

Greetings to Bellis’ sponsors,

Our lobby belle must be getting sick of that old “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” trope. Yet again, Bellis has come this-close to adoption, only to find herself a runner-up. The lovely folks who adopted Mrs. Jinx also considered Bellis…but Jinx was meant to be their girl.

Still, Bellis offers no complaints about the situation. Nor do her fans. More than once, a visiting Bellis-adorer has confided, “much as I’d love to see her get a home, I’m so glad she’s still here so I can visit her.” Her big day will come – but until then, we’ll all enjoy her stay.

In other news, we’ve noticed that only one lobby cat will swipe at Bellis…Geoff. The tabby guy is no real threat, and the two have frequently been seen engaging in slap-fests in which no one gets hurt.

On my most recent visit with Bellis, I noticed that she heard my voice and reacted. It was nice to see that recognition in her face as she turned her head and perked up, anticipating that I would greet her. Sometimes I feel like I don’t do enough for Bellis; I wish I could visit more often or for longer periods, I wish I could take her home and make her a part of my family. I can’t, though, so I have to settle for what I can share with her. It’s nice to see that she appreciates and recognizes me for what we have together.

We greeted each other, and Bellis stretched, yawned and started kneading. She made it clear that I should keep petting her for a while, and I happily obliged. It was cooler in the lobby than usual, and it was noon on a weekday, so there was a lot of activity. Bellis and I hung out and watched as a volunteer cleaned up and carted away the mums, and various others went from room to room to office to cat suite.

Finally Bellis took a bath and I spent some quality time with Boots, who is another one of my favorite lobby cats. Boots has a sleek, thick coat of fur and I sat petting him for a while, watching Bellis.

Bellis was spirited again on this visit and got up and ran around like crazy. It’s such fun to watch her play and realize that if you didn’t know Bellis can’t see, you wouldn’t know Bellis can’t see. If you know what I mean. It is so much fun to watch her and her friends play: a stress reliever and always good for a belly laugh. I don’t know anyone who can’t use a good belly laugh. Bellis seemed in on the joke too, really goofing around and stopping short right in front of other cats. Bellis kept it up for a long time, and when I went back through the lobby on my way out, Bellis was sleeping happily on her chair.

During this season of giving thanks, I give thanks to you dear sponsors, for helping our sweet Bellis.
