Update for Adam

Happy November, Friends!

Adam and I hope you are doing well.  We are fine and enjoying this lovely fall.

Adam has been in very good health and spirits lately.  He has been acting much more like his goofy and affectionate self.  His stool has been quite firm of late, which can be rather uncomfortable for a cat such as Adam, who needs assistance in this department.  We are adjusting his medications slightly to help him pass what he needs to pass.  He was started on an antifungal medication because he is also on steroids. He needs the antifungal because Tabby’s Place is experiencing a bit of a “fungus amungus” problem!

For the past several weeks quite a few cats have developed ringworm.  Tabby’s Place is incredibly careful about ringworm protocol so this outbreak was quite a surprise.  The cats who have ringworm are isolated in a special room and are being treated.  There are new measures in place to be sure that we don’t pass the fungus from room to room and therefore spread it to more cats.  We are hopeful that this little difficulty will be past us soon.  Adam is taking an antifungal as a precaution because his steroids make his immune system more susceptible to things like ringworm.

One funny thing that happened between Adam and me this month was due to the new ringworm protocols.  A few weeks ago at our volunteer meeting, we were told to be more careful about hugging the cats.  We could give them pets but we were supposed to try not to get their fur all over our clothes while we were doing the cleaning and having to go room to room.  Well, Adam, that crazy bugger, decided to come running up to me, jump up on a cubby, reach both arms up, and try to hug me that day!  He hasn’t done that in years!!  He is definitely being more affectionate, but this was just too funny that he chose the day I couldn’t really hug him back to try and hug me.  I did give him plenty of rubs and told him how much I love him!

There is a new cat in Suite A named Raven.  She seems like a sweet girl.  She is reserved and keeps to herself quite a bit.  On Saturday, Raven was asleep, buried under a blanket.  I didn’t even realize she was there until I almost put something on top of her when I was cleaning!  Adam went over to the lump and started sniffing it.  He seemed to realize that Raven was under it, but didn’t mind, and lay down next to the lump, giving it a little snuggle.  It was sweet to see Adam being so nice to a newcomer.

Adam and I are so grateful for you in this season of Thanksgiving.  He knows that his life is so much richer for having you in it.  He enjoys it when you can visit him in person, or just in spirit.  Thank you for everything that you do for the Tabby’s Place cats.  You are very much appreciated.
