Happy New Year, friends! Adam and I hope that January is finding you healthy and excited for a brand new year.
Since it is January, it is Adam’s birthday month! At Tabby’s Place, all of the cats celebrate their birthdays on January 1 (since it is very difficult to know when most of them were actually born). This makes Adam a wonderful nine years old! Our jubilant boy has had a generally mellow healthy month. Adam lost a small amount of weight in early December, but then stabilized. As always, we will keep a close eye on him.
I am of the recent belief that Adam has become part bear. Not due to any behaviors that might resemble an animal of the ursine variety (although I wouldn’t put clawing, biting, hunting or even growling past our little, lovable tabby), but because Adam has decided to hibernate for the winter! It has been terribly cold in New Jersey for the last ten days or so and Adam has begrudgingly been confined to the interior of Suite A for the wicked winter weather. Whenever the temperature drops below ridiculously cold, we close off the tubes to the solaria so that the cats will stay safe and warm indoors. Adam is so fond of the solarium, as are his suitemates Pepita and Steven. All of them are waiting until they are allowed out of doors once again. Today and tomorrow are rather balmy, so I am hoping that as I write this, Adam has been able to get in a few hours in the fresh air because this weekend is supposed to be way below freezing again.
When I say that Adam has been hibernating, I’m not really exaggerating. Steven and Pepita have decided to spend their forced indoor stay sitting as close to the door into the hallway as they can and staring at it, willing it to open so they can get to their beloved solarium. Adam has chosen to sleep. I have spent several visits trying to see Adam and spend some time with him and every time I go into Suite A, I find him asleep in the same spot. This past week when I visited, Adam was in his usual spot, curled up and dreaming. I called his name, he opened one eye, glared at me, rolled over and went back to sleep. I guess he has decided that the time will go faster until spring arrives if he isn’t awake.
So unfortunately, this update will be a little shorter than usual, dear friends. There just are no great Adam stories to share right now. Our boy is just snoozing away the winter. At least, thanks to our wonderful team of people at Tabby’s Place, I know that he is healthy, happy and eating. I just haven’t been fortunate enough to be at the sanctuary when Adam has been awake. I am hoping that February will see Adam back to his crazy, feisty, adorable self.
Thank you so much for loving this silly boy. Enjoy your winter days and try to stay warm. Adam and I will be back next month with more news from Suite A!
