Happy May!
Adam is enjoying these lovely spring days and hopes you are as well.
There have been a lot of moves at Tabby’s Place this month. The three adoption rooms were turned into offices for our Development Director, Volunteer Coordinator and Sanctuary Operations Manager, while the Community Room (formerly shared office space) became a more open, general-purpose area, with many more feline residents. These changes made for lot of cat shuffling around.
Luckily for our Adam, Suite A was not affected by any of these moves. Our zesty boy happily remained in his longtime haven.
Less luckily, Adam recently had a significant bout of constipation with blood. This took two days, and multiple enemas, to clear, but fortunately he’s now on the mend.
Our staff has begun crating Adam each day for special feeding. He is getting a high fiber diet to try and help with his bowel issues. Our vet tech reports that Adam’s stool has been great on this diet, and he has had no constipation since the change. I have heard tell that there has been much rejoicing over the quality of Adam’s poop!!
Adam’s behavior, on the other hand, has begun to regress! I have had so much hope recently that our boy was over his nippy, scratchy stage, but he is back to being a little stinker. This may have something to do with new cats in his suite. Two lovely boys, Ditto and Dratini (named after Pokemon characters, if you were wondering), moved in recently. They are sweet, shy guys who like to come up to visitors in the room and just have normal, everyday cat interactions with people. They like to rub legs and get head scratches.
Adam seems a bit miffed by this! The last few times I have visited, Adam has reverted to nipping my hands and trying to climb my body. I am still able to pet him some, but he quickly starts misbehaving, and I have to back off for fear of rewarding naughty behavior.
This past Saturday, I had a small group of people visit Suite A on a tour. They were cat rescuers themselves, so they were curious about all of our suites and different types of kitties. We went into Adam’s room, and he immediately ran over to greet them. They loved him, of course. He really is so cute when you first see him. Then he started to nip at the woman’s hands to get attention. She was sweet to him, but he got really overstimulated, so she turned her attention to Mary in order to help calm Adam down. Adam went right to the gentleman and started trying to climb his leg! The man was lovely, and simply stroked Adam’s head as Adam tried to climb higher and higher. He couldn’t get a good grip with his claws on the man’s pants (thank goodness!). So, Adam just stretched and stretched his body longer and longer, trying to reach up to the man’s face. I have never seen a cat stretch so far before. Adam had his paws on the man’s waist, with his back paws still on the floor. It was quite comical!
Fortunately, these people were very understanding and found Adam’s antics to be charming. I knew better, because I know that Adam knows how to be more polite, but I let them love on him anyway. He was happy, and so were they.
Adam has still been enjoying the pleasure of story time with some of our staff children from time to time. Jess’s son Ben loves to read to Adam, as does Lisa’s son Sky. These kids are so good with Adam, and he revels in their attention. It is such a joy to see, and so cute. I love that Adam can get special attention from two caring boys who understand the needs of a cat like our little guy.
Adam thanks you for all that you do for him each month. He enjoys such great vet care and special treats like being a reading buddy, all because of your generosity. Adam sends you oodles of joy and love and hopes you are enjoying these lovely warm days of May. Until next month…
