Adam has had a lovely month and hopes that your Independence Day was joyful.
Alas, Adam has struggled with both constipation and diarrhea this month, so we’ve resumed his antibiotic. Through it all, his weight has fortunately been stable, such that we’re able to drop from weekly to monthly weigh-ins. In better news, Adam seems to be getting along quite well with his suitemates these days. In fact, things have been so calm in Suite A that even nervous Zach has been out and about…so we’ll give Adam kudos for that.
It’s possible that this peace is a result of Adam’s adopting the solarium as his primary summer hangout. He is always out there with Rose and Pepita, and this seems to be a very serene place for him. He is much calmer, and less “crazy-eyed” when he is in the solarium. I am grateful for this nice weather, so he can be out there as much as possible.
When I last visited with Adam, I took the mouse toy back to see if he would try and groom it again, or if he would actually play with the toy as it is meant to be played with. I walked in with the mouse on the string, and Adam gave it a look, swatted at it once, half-heartedly, and then wandered off. Rose played with it for a minute before she, too, lost interest.
All of a sudden, I realized that Adam had gone into the little igloo in the solarium. He was hiding from the mouse! So I put the mouse away and started talking to Adam and telling him that it was okay; he could come out. He didn’t. But the most amazing thing happened. He let me pet him…a lot! I got in so many good head scratches. Adam wouldn’t come out of the igloo, but he let me pet his head over and over while he was in there. I have never petted him so many times in one visit.
I would love to know why Adam decided to hide, and I’m still very puzzled by his behavior with the mouse toy, but I am thrilled that I finally got to really pet my silly boy. It has been a long time coming.
Adam sends you his love, dear friends. He knows that you are in his corner, and he wishes you were here so you could pet him, too. He promises that he will try and let you pet him the next time he sees you. Have a wonderful end of the month, and we’ll be back with more Adam antics in August!
