Update for Adam

Welcome to summer, my friends!

Adam is out and about in “his” solarium and enjoying the warm, sunny days.

Adam’s mysterious ways continue unabated. At the end of May, we rechecked our little guy for tritrichomonas foetas, a single celled flagellated protozoan parasite of the intestinal tract. Although Adam tested negative for the parasite — twice, in fact — after treatment, we were suspicious that it was still lurking and causing his gastrointestinal issues. However, this third test was negative, so something else must be going on. Since Adam’s GI issues have been so unremitting, we’ll soon be sending him for a full work-up with a specialist, including an endoscopy.

Adam’s curious behavior with other felines continues as well. While Adam loves the solarium, and this keeps him away from most of his usual punching bags, he still dominates whatever space he inhabits. He and Rose get along quite well, and the two of them spend a lot of their time together outdoors. Unfortunately for any other cat who ventures out for some sunshine, Adam is lord of the solarium.

When I last visited, he was beating Pepita up every time she tried to come down the ramp and into the solarium for some sun and some love. When she finally made it down the ramp (she’s a persistent little one, thank goodness), she came over to me for some petting and ended up getting whacked by Adam!

Luckily, she took no offense, just hissed a little, and came back for more love. Adam tried again with a swat, but finally gave up and let me pet her.

I was able to pet Adam a bit more than usual this past week. He didn’t try to bite or swipe at me, and I got in several strokes on his cute little head.

I wish I could tell you that Adam is coming around, both health-wise and in the behavior department. I am hoping that we will get some answers to the health issues soon. Perhaps that will also shed some light on his strange behavior. I look forward to the day when I can spend some quality time with our little tabby friend and really enjoy a snuggle and some quality play time. At the moment, that is just too hard for our Adam. With any luck, next month will bring better news.

Adam sends you his love and thanks you so much for everything that you do for him. Have a happy and wonderful start to your summer!
