Update for Adam

Welcome to September, my friends!

Adam is excited for the cooler, crisper weather and hopes that you are as well.

Our boy has had a wonderful few weeks since our last visit. The Adam that I experience lately is a very different Adam from our wacky child of a few months ago. Somehow, ever since Camp Tabby’s Place, Adam is a reformed cat. (Well, not completely reformed — but still, so much better.) I don’t know if it was the love of the kids, or just a huge coincidence, but Adam is much calmer.

Whenever I visit him, he just ambles over to me to say hi. When I reach down, I get to pet him for a good two minutes or so before a tentative little paw comes up to grab my hand. When I tell him “no,” he puts the paw right back down, and I can get in a few more pets before he tries the paw again. This is huge progress for Adam. A few months ago, no one could pet him without getting clawed or nibbled within moments. Now he can enjoy some love without freaking everyone out! I adore being around him, and he is really benefiting from his new-found serenity.

Often, when I clean his suite, Adam will sit and watch me. This is another new behavior for him. Last week, he actually slept through the cleaning. When I finished, I got my camera and took a picture of him. He was so cute! When he woke up, he ambled down the ramp and came calmly over for some love.

I really began to wonder if he was on some sort of calming medication, so I asked. He is not! This is just who Adam has become. I wish I knew what the magic was, but I’ll take this new Adam and encourage this behavior until it sticks for him.

Our bouncy boy recently gained a like-minded (and like-boweled) roommate in Rose. Rose is an adorable white cat with black markings. She is very tiny, and her tail had to be removed due to a spinal injury suffered when she was a kitten. Her injury also left her incontinent, so she joins Adam and Hootz in all of their leaky splendor! Fortunately, the newest incontinent member of Suite C hasn’t irked Adam, even though she does compete for human attention. Given Adam’s checkered history with cats, we’re proud of the way he’s accepted Rose.

We’re less thrilled about Adam’s posterior: he’s begun leaking again. We’re treating him with one of the standard antibiotics that’s usually effective for these issues.

Adam lovers, I hope you are as excited as I am by Adam’s new-found behaviors. I will keep telling him that I am proud of him and want him to continue down this path of peace. Who knows what wonderful things it may bring for him in the future?

As always, Adam sends you his love. At least now you know that love will come with sweet head butts and not claws! Adam has learned to love appropriately, and I will give him many scritches and snuggles from all of you. Happy fall.
