Update for Adam

Greetings, friends of Adam!

Adam is having a fantastic August and hopes that you are as well.

It’s been two weeks since the end of Tabby’s Place’s first-ever camp for children, and Adam’s just beginning to drift down from cloud nine. Our wildman was convinced that all the excitement — and all those youngsters – was focused on him. We’re proud of Adam’s behavior during the event, as no children were scarred for life in the process. In fact, it seems Adam was a favorite among the campers, who were almost as exuberant as our tabby boy.

I have seen a huge change in Adam since camp ended. I have been at Tabby’s Place several times a week helping out with various things. Every time I visit with Adam, he is very mellow.

I actually got worried about him one day. He was sleeping on a little cat tree, all curled up in a cute little tabby ball. He didn’t lift his head when I came in the room. I cleaned the room and he still didn’t move. I went over and talked to him and stroked his back, and he just lifted his head, opened one eye, and then went back to sleep.

I mentioned all this to a staff member, who also became concerned and said she would keep an eye on him. Well, we needn’t have worried. A few minutes later, I went back into Suite C for something, and Adam woke up and started following me around the room. He was back to his normal self.

A few months ago, I wrote about how Adam is my favorite kind of kid to teach: the naughty boy who really wants to be good, but just doesn’t have the skills to act appropriately. Well, our Adam seems to have reformed a lot. He is much less aggressive in his quest for love. He seems to realize that if he comes on too strong, he will not get love, he will get pushed away. He comes up to me now and lets me pet his head and his back without trying to nip or scratch. He only allows a few minutes of this before he goes back to his old ways, but every little bit of progress is a victory for Adam. He gets gold stars on his behavior chart this month!

Adam has had some cats move in and out of his Suite recently. Pecan was adopted, but Adam doesn’t really seem to notice this much. Perhaps more significantly to Adam, Meatball has arrived in Suite C. He is a very friendly cat, who I suspect will be competing with Mango and Adam for attention. I am not sure how Adam feels about this new addition. He seems to be spending a lot of time in the solarium, perhaps to avoid Meatball (who hasn’t really discovered the joys of the great outdoors yet).

What is interesting is that Mango seems to have moved some of his time to the solarium and is choosing to be with Adam over Meatball. I don’t know what that is all about, but I spent a very pleasant afternoon with both Adam and Mango (and Virginia) in the solarium, and there was only one little tussle. It was very, very peaceful.

I am really enjoying the “new” Adam. and I keep telling him how proud I am of his newfound peace. I hope it continues into the fall, and Adam remains the reformed “wild child”.

Peace to you all as you enjoy the last few days of summer. Adam sends you his love (gently) and wants you to know how grateful he is for all that you do for him.
