Special Update for Princess Bubblegum

Special Update for Princess Bubblegum

Dear sponsors,

I’m extremely saddened to report that last night we lost Princess Bubblegum.

As you know, she’s been pickier and pickier with her food. But on Sunday night, she did not eat at all.

I brought her in to Tabby’s Place, and we found her kidney values to be sky high. The numbers were too high to read on the machine. We started IV fluids in the hopes of bringing these numbers down.

We also started PBG on medications to get her feeling better and eating again. She seemed okay, but we knew this was bad news. She was eating a little bit, but not enough. This was real bad.

On Wednesday we rechecked her kidney values, and they had not budged, not at all. The numbers were still too high to read. Princess Bubblegum developed ulcers in her mouth from the kidney disease. She stopped eating. There was no way she would eat with her mouth looking the way it did. The only way to get her through this was to place a feeding tube.  I was hopeful that this would help her. This would also get her medications into her; she’d been avoiding them in her food.

When I went to do her third feeding last night, I found PBG lying flat on her side. I picked her up, and she took two breaths and died in my arms.

I’m heartbroken. I’m so sad. This is just not fair. My 4-year-old cat. My youngest cat. I will write a full tribute to her on the Tabby’s Place blog in the near future, but honestly, right now, I am a mess. I am so sad.

Thank you for being such wonderful friends to Princess Bubblegum through the years. You made it possible for us to fill her brief life with love and the special care she needed. Know that your kindness is a comfort at this very sad time. We can never thank you enough.

Your correspondent,
Jess
