Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friends,

Carrot actually has some medical news this month. After not acting like himself, the vet team ran some tests to see what was going on. It turns out he has idiopathic hypocalcemia, which means his calcium levels are low. The medication for this is given once a week, but it has to be given on an empty stomach. This means Carrot has to be crated overnight once a week after dinner, and he can’t have any kibble overnight. Carrot, of course, if not a fan of this, but the medication is really helping him, and when the vet team retested his calcium levels they were normal. So, for the time being, Carrot will have to have a little inconvenience once a week to be able to stay healthy.

Carrot has a new roommate in Suite C, Graycie, who is not a fan of other cats. Graycie quickly found the solarium and seems to love it out there. The solarium seems to provide Graycie with peace and stimulation, and she isn’t anywhere near as cranky out there. Carrot, Joshua, and Elijah don’t seem to mind that she is sharing their solarium.

Carrot and Joshua are still good friends and are often hanging out together these days. They play and wrestle, and take naps together— it’s adorable! Joshua can have a feisty side with people, and too much activity makes it worse, so during cleaning at Tabby’s Place we have to crate Joshua, so he doesn’t hurt anyone. He does not seem to have that bad attitude at all with the other cats, especially Carrot and Wilbur. Even Wilbur will wrestle with Joshua and seems to really like him. Joshua must have some special powers to win over Wilbur.

Carrot and the stroller cats have been enjoying extra stroller walks in the nice weather. When we have a really hot day we cancel stroller walks because we don’t want the cats getting overheated.  But we have had plenty of perfect strolling days lately, and the cats have loved every minute of their strolls.

We are talking with the senior homes, where we used to visit before the pandemic, and hoping to be able to return soon. The cats loved visiting the seniors, and it meant so much to the seniors, so it would be nice to get that program running again.

That’s the Carrot news for now. Thank you all for your support of our orange, fun-loving boy.
