Hello, Friends of Faye!
As we grow ever nearer to the first few “official” days of summer, nature seems to have happily complied with warmer temperatures, more colorful flowers, and even the occasional mid-day thundershower. And beautiful Faye has been happily bearing witness to these happenings from her favorite spot in Suite B’s solarium. For so many of us who have spent the past few weeks staying safe at home, the ever-changing landscape is a much-needed reminder that nature continues to thrive beyond the barriers of our windows.
Like you, I have not been able to visit Tabby’s Place in months, but I think of Faye often, and I am grateful to have friends who send me photos of her from time to time. I look at the pictures, and I try to imagine what she is thinking and feeling as she looks out upon the scenes of summer emerging from the garden beyond her suite. Most recently, I was reminded of a piece called “All in June” by the poet, William Henry Davies, who writes:

“A week ago I had a fire
To warm my feet, my hands, and face;
Cold winds, that never make a friend,
Crept in and out of every place.
Today the fields are rich in grass,
And buttercups in thousands grow;
I’ll show the world where I have been—
With gold-dust seen on either shoe.
Till to my garden back I come,
Where bumble-bees for hours and hours
Sit on their soft, fat, velvet bums,
To wriggle out of hollow flowers.”
I have thought of these lines often while thinking of Faye out in the solarium, where you can expect to find her sunbathing and spying on bumble-bees—in any and all weather conditions—from now until winter’s frost.
Also, like many of us, Faye has spent the past few weeks engaging in some social distancing. Many cats have been adopted from Suite B through our new remote adoption process and have gone to their forever homes, leaving fewer kitties—and fewer competitors for prime spaces in “box city.” Faye seems quite pleased that there aren’t as many other kitties in her once chock-full-of-cats domicile, as she has always been one to appreciates her space. While certainly not a recluse by any means, Faye has also never really been a cat’s cat, you might say. She instead prefers her roommates friendly but sparse.
In other news, Faye was noted to have some eye discharge this month, but our veterinary team says no signs of swelling, so treatment was not required. Additionally, Faye also experienced some weight loss, but her blood work showed that everything was within normal limits. Beyond these minor updates, there is no additional health-related news to report this month.
We hope that you, too, have been enjoying the view of the changing seasons from wherever you’ve been spending your (quarantined) days. Faye thanks you for your love and generous support and hopes that you, too, have found some solace in the summer sun and within your own safe space. She thinks of you often, and she hopes that she is in your thoughts as well. We’ll talk again soon, friends . . .
