Woweeeeee…welcome to February, dear sponsors and cat lovers. I am so happy it is February…
In fact, next year I would just love to skip January altogether and go straight from December 31 to
February. Why? Well…
On January 23, the staff saw that I had a hematoma on my ear. It remains a mystery how this developed, as I haven’t been seen fighting, I don’t have ear mites, and I can’t move my back legs to scratch my ear (the most common causes of hematomas).
But whatever caused it, I needed surgery to repair my hematoma. Now I have an abnormal-looking ear, and my head looks a little lopsided, as you can see. I still have these black strings called sutures in my right ear. They have to stay in until the doctor takes them out after my ear is healed.
As if this was not bad enough, on February 1, it was discovered that I now had a URI (upper respiratory infection). So the staff put me on antibiotics. What a month!
Scribe came to visit me on February 5th. She was all set to give me a back rub, talk to me and even
read to me. But, I was preempted for a bit. Little Jude was in the house, and Scribe wanted to meet him
and hold him and love on him. He was in a crate in my room, the Community Room. So Scribe was able
to hold Jude and spend some time with him. He really is cute and loves the attention. And since I was in
a mini snit, it was okay with me that she spent time with him.
Pixie was also very needy. So Scribe picked her up and loved on her a bit. When she put Pixie down, Pixie
started crying. Then Scribe realized that Pixie wanted her window seat. After Scribe settled her in, Pixie
just looked out the window and loved every minute of her afternoon sun and “movie,” watching the
world go by.
But Scribe still wanted to spend time with me. I hid under the table, and every time she moved a chair to get close to me, I just scootched away. I actually covered a lot of territory and got in some good practice for the next marathon in either Boston or New York.
Scribe spent some time talking to me and trying to coax me to come over so she could pet me and give me some love and a back rub. Today was not the day!
She asked me to tell her how I got my hematoma, but I was not giving it up. Then she saw that my front legs had been shaved for blood draws. I really don’t look at all like my old self right now…but that does
not mean I am any different inside than I was before. I still like having visitors and having my neck and
back rubs…just not today.
So, dear sponsors, know that I am fine and recuperating from a terrible January. Please don’t stop
coming to visit me, as I really do love seeing everyone and having some attention and lots of pets and
backrubs. I know my stitches will be out soon.
Until then, have a wonderful month!
Love and kitty kisses to all,
June
