Update for Butterfly

Greetings, new sponsors of Butterfly!

I’m looking forward to sharing stories about this adorable little cat each month. I know a few of you had previously sponsored Lady, a beloved lobby cat who succumbed to cancer last month. I was her correspondent, and it seems right now to adopt Butterfly.

As you can see in this picture, Lady and Fly (as she has been affectionately nicknamed) were very friendly and would hang out together in the lobby.

When she first arrived at Tabby’s Place, Fly usually could be found nesting in her large crate. The door was left open for her, but probably she intially preferred the safety and familiarity of the crate. Now that she’s comfortable in her new surroundings, she’s been exploring the lobby area. Appropriately, Fly has taken over Lady’s favorite box under the reception desk; I’ve found her dozing there on my last two visits.

Unfortunately, Fly has several medical concerns to be monitored. While surgery for her spinal deformity has improved her mobility, she still has trouble climbing, and she can’t jump.

Recently, it was found that Fly’s liver values were elevated, so a needle aspirate was performed on her liver to determine the cause. While it didn’t provide much information, it at least ruled out cancer. Fly’s elevated liver values could have something to do with her birth defects, and she’s scheduled for bloodwork to run more tests. A large section of her fur had to be shaved for this procedure, but it’s growing back in nicely.

Fly is the perfect lobby “greeter,” as she charms every visitor she meets. She loves to be petted and brushed. She has had many people interested in adopting her, but her multiple disabilities have been a determent. When the right person comes along, she will make a wonderful companion.

Until then, thanks to your support, Tabby’s Place will be there for her.
