Update for Tux

Dear friends of Tux,

Excuse me??!?!?

Our handsome tuxedo friend has enjoyed a winter of good health. His mouth regularly gets checked by Dr. Collins and it continues to look very good. He is on a very low dose of steroids now to keep any inflammation at bay.

Tux is taking the hand-washing and sanitizing procedures posted around the sanctuary very seriously. I’ve seen him bathing on numerous occasions this very day. Perhaps he’s trying to set a good example.

Tux and Impy

While little changes in Tux’s daily routine, the excitement level in the Community Room has increased dramatically this month. Three new color-coordinated kitties joined the population, and all three are under a year old. Beatty is an all black kitty with no eyes. Bing is Beatty’s brother and looks a great deal like a tiny Tux. Tipsy is another tuxedo with a prominent wobble to his walk. All three were introduced to the room on the same day and released to explore on the same day.

I wish I had managed to capture the look on Tux’s face the first time he was surrounded by a flock of youngsters. He gave a very clear look of “really?” and then hopped to higher ground to nap and forget what he had just seen. Periwinkle was equally perplexed by the change to her environment even though she is a kitten herself. We have been working extra hard with Peri to get her to be more social. She loves lickable treats and wand toys but isn’t certain that she wants to share these special moments with others.

The result of all this young energy has made Tux sleepy. With spring on the horizon, warm sunny windows are in demand. We have three windows in the Community Room and frequently have six cats curled up in the sunlit warmth. Finding a place for some R&R can be challenging, especially when there is a blind, bat-eared Beatty waiting to pounce.

Lisa
