Update for Tux

Welcome to 2024, Dear Friend!

Tux is happy to report that he is more than ready to take on this new year. His health has remained stable (aside from the occasional bout of constipation and nausea), and he has your love to keep his spirits soaring high, so what more could an elderly gentleman cat ask for?

Tux never asks for much. His naturally unobtrusive nature makes him the ideal cat to oversee the comings and goings of the Community Room that he calls home. So in this month of “new beginnings” and “fresh starts,” Tux and I thought you might enjoy learning a bit more about the transformational power of the Tabby’s Place Community Room.

Harvey & Shelley snuggle up for a nap.

The Community Room at Tabby’s Place is presently home to twelve cats: Eira, Harvey, Shelley, Tux, Aries, Eartha, Farva, Penelope, Buster, Gulliver, Yuki, and Lawrence. Tux has lived in the room longer than any of the other residents and is most definitely seen as the OG resident.

The Community Room has long been thought of as one of the most comfortable and relaxed environments at Tabby’s Place. The cats that call it home tend to be quiet and reserved (like Harvey, Shelley, Buster, Lawrence, and Gulliver), require close monitoring for medical reasons (like Aries, Eartha, and Farva], or would benefit from human socialization (cats like Eira and Yuki). Most also enjoy (or tolerate) the company of other cats. It is a warm and welcoming room that offers a pleasant balance between human social opportunities and quiet time.

Tabby’s Place is filled with miracles and beautiful transformations, but there is something particularly special about the air in our Community Room that eases troubled feline souls. It is a place where friendships will blossom into full bouquets of love. Our beloved, Tux is at the center of such transformations as he is the model cat in terms of personality, a fact that you know well as his loving sponsor.

Tux presides over the Community Room.

Tux loves human attention and responds to it with purrs of appreciation, but he never insists on being the center of attention nor seeks to redirect attention from other felines. Tux enjoys the company of other cats. He will spend many blissful hours curled up with a warm furry friend, but it is usually the friend that seeks out Tux. New Community Room residents feel safe and welcome around Tux, and that is just the start that some felines need to blossom into loving companions. You can click here to watch a charming short video of Lawrence grooming Tux while Tux is blissfully napping.

Yuki, Tux, and Lawrence share the desk.

Watching this interaction, I bet you wouldn’t have guessed that Tux and Lawrence met for the first time right around Christmas. Lawrence came to Tabby’s Place in early June and moved into Suite J (one of the new suites in the expansion). He spent almost all of his days by himself in a cubby seemingly nervous around the other cats and people. Within days of moving to the Community Room, he discovered the love of his life, Yuki, and took up residence on Ginny’s desk, making friends with all the cats that love the company of other cats. It brought tears to our eyes and warmth to our hearts.

I hope this love story travels the miles to warm your heart, just as your love warms Tux’s heart every day!
