Update for Shifty

Hello, dear sponsors!

I am happy to report that Shifty remains in good health this past month. His coat is soft and shiny, and his paws and bib are so white, it looks as if he is sporting a gray tuxedo for a special event!  However, EVERY day is special at Tabby’s Place, and Shifty always looks his best.

The one new addition to his tuxedo-look is a calming collar.  This collar releases natural pheromones (like hormones in humans) that promote good social behavior and relieve stress.  Shifty has not been as sweet and kind to his suitemates as he has been to we humans that spend time with him.  The addition of his new collar has helped him to relax around the other cats, and (hopefully) form positive relationships. So far, so good.

When I visited him during this past month, I could not help but notice that his favorite time of day seems to be dinner time! After eating his dinner during my last visit, he contentedly washed his paws while laying in his favorite “munchie box.” This is a cardboard box with the pictures of Frito-Lay products on the outside and a big blanket inside. I left him briefly to speak to another volunteer, and upon my return, I found him lapping up the meal intended for another cat that had been placed on the cat-tree for safe-keeping! He knew he had been caught red-handed; I think he also knew as I laughed that I would not do anything to spoil his “fun.”

I have also heard an eye-witness account of Shifty “breaking- in” to a microchip automatic cat feeder, designed to control overeating and proper diet. Under normal conditions, a cat can only gain access to the feeder once the feeder has “scanned” its chip…. more details to come! Maybe he is wearing those white paw “kid-gloves” for a reason…

My personal opinion is that it will not matter if Shifty remains at Tabby’s Place for the rest of his life, or is adopted by a family.  Mealtime will remain his favorite time of day!

We thank you, his faithful sponsors, for the love and care you send his way each and every month.  Shifty faced many struggles in his senior life until he was blessed to become a part of the Tabby’s Place “family” of cats.  Once upon a time, he suffered physical pain and heartache.  Today, when he rests his beautiful head in slumber, he knows he is loved.

May his tomorrows continue to be healthy and happy.  Thank you for the joy it brings me to share Shifty’s news with you each month. Happy Holidays!
