Update for Shifty

Hello, Fans of Shifty!

This month sees our fine fellow sitting in the windows of the Employee/Volunteer Lounge he calls “home,” watching with curiosity the ongoing construction.  Shifty observed all of the activity of the construction crew, as they assisted with the pouring of the new foundation. The comings and goings were busy, as this level of construction required many hands “on deck.”  Parking their vehicles in front of Shifty’s window, I almost felt him wanting to wave one of his white-gloved paws at a few recognizable faces who are always there.

For those of you who have not been following the construction of Quinn’s Corner, this new area will house kitties that come to us from truly hopeless situations–neonatal kittens and cats testing positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV+). For different reasons, these cats are frequently turned away by most shelters or euthanized on diagnosis. Tabby’s Place hopes to provide a haven of hope for these beautiful cats so deserving of life and good health. Shifty and I have included a couple of photos of the ongoing construction, so you can see how we are coming along outdoors, as well as a photo of our final goal!

Looking ahead: Quinn’s Corner completed look

As Shifty watches from his perch in the window, it is often the time for his insulin injection, which he receives twice a day. He receives those injections right there on his cat perch, and if for some reason he is not there, he runs to the window perch and awaits his injection.  The staff has said it is almost as if he is standing at attention to receive it, quite unusual for a cat to do!  Many cats (my own included) will go running in another direction when they see you coming!  I think this shows us that Shifty is really a remarkable patient, comfortable with and loved by our staff who treats him.

The staff noticed an episode of a wet-sounding cough one day; that cough has not recurred.  He is being monitored for any repeat, which will be addressed accordingly.

We remain so very grateful for your gifts that help Shifty to be the very best fellow he can be.  No matter what is happening in his day, this svelte boy greets me looking his best with a wonderful cat smile.  I fall head-over-heels in love with him again each time I see him.

It’s a great way to feel!
