Update for Sammy

Happy cusp of spring, dear Sammy sponsors!

Angela here, Tabby’s Place’s Development Director, stepping in for your faithful correspondent Kate, who will be back with your Sammy stories in April.

Meantime, I must admit I’m overjoyed for any excuse to spend some extra time with Sammy. Our big-eyed, deep-spirited girl has been a favorite of mine since her early, anxious days with us at Tabby’s Place, and it’s been a great delight to see her stretch out her soul in the Community Room these past two years.

That’s how I see it, anyway. When Sammy first came to Tabby’s Place, she was curled up tight as a tabby-striped cinnamon roll, or a snail shell, nervous and wary and worried what she’d gotten herself into. Human touch was too terrifying to imagine, and Sammy was far from sure this world was safe for little tabbies. And so, our lovely girl stayed in a secure “loaf” position, legs wrapped tightly under her fearful frame.

What a difference a few years and a lot of patient love can make.

Today, you’re likely to find Sammy fully extended — legs launching in all directions, sun slathering her stripes with bliss — in the window box in the Community Room. She’s generally got a cat friend (like Puzzle, pictured here) sharing the space, coexisting peacefully.

But there’s something even deeper than peace here. Sammy is at peace in the world and in herself. She feels fully secure, able to dream without fear, to let herself be warmed and loved.

And petted — abundantly!

Dear sponsors, Sammy’s ongoing evolution has everything to do with your patient, faithful support. Thank you for loving this brave, beautiful girl as she’s come to love her life with us. Rest assured that life — and every one of us at Tabby’s Place — are loving her right back.

With warmest gratitude,
Angela

PS: I didn’t mention anything about Sammy’s health, did I? Well…that’s because she’s spectacularly stable, with no medical news to report. Yeah!
