Update for Sammy

Dear Supporters of Sammy,

I often wonder if cats are like people. Are they as preoccupied with the weather and the temperature as we are? Do they wake up every morning checking their iPhones, listening to the Weather Channel, or — if they’re lucky enough to have an Echo — asking Alexa what the current temperature is outside? Do they give a quick little shiver when they hear those numbers in the teens?

For most of us, February is a tough month to get through. And lately, when I’ve come to visit Sammy and all her buddies at Tabby’s Place — Tux, Puzzle and Pixie — I can’t help but notice that they seem to be snoozing a lot more.

The sky is gray, overcast or cloudy. The temps are in the low thirties or twenties. The wind is blowing outside, and I rush into this glorious shelter only to find these little furry babies sleeping. They cuddle themselves up into balls. Their tails often cover their noses. Sometimes, they are buried in fluffy blankets, or they are smushed up against another — furry body warmth, I suppose.

The other day, I found Sammy cuddled half-asleep. She actually peeked out when I came over to pet her, barely rousing herself to say hi. Pixie was snuggled next to her, and they both seemed to have the same attitude: “Yeah, we’re glad you’re here, but, ahem, you’re interrupting our very sweet sleep time, so would you mind?”

It was one of those cold days, and I didn’t blame her one bit. If I were her, I would have been doing the same thing, deciding just to stay in bed a little bit longer rather than brave the cold, cold day.

All the other kitties seem to be on what I call “snooze alert.” They were snoozing, but if something spectacular were to happen, they would have jumped to alert. But, alas, nothing spectacular did happen, so they remained content to dream of treats or birds or squirrels. And to hope for the winter to pass and for spring to arrive!

Thanks, as always, for your continued support.
