Dear Friends,
Sometimes when I have extra time on my paws, I like to learn new things. I do believe that every day is a gift and should be celebrated. Hmmm, what celebration could possibly be in August? August is officially “Admit You’re Happy Month.” I’m happy every day of the year because you are my sponsor, that is a 365-day celebration for your li’l black and white furry southern kitty!
Did you notice that the summer has been going fast? This has been a summer unlike any other. I try my very “Rose best” to keep my furry chin up and stay positive. Every evening when I am curled up for bed in my soft cat bed, I think of a happy moment that I had during the day. Most days are filled with lots of happy moments! Feel free to try this too, it might help you sleep better. I do declare that Cotton is the li’l brother that I never had but always wanted. He is such a cute li’l white puff with beautiful blue eyes. Cotton and I are pals and play and nap together. He is a youngin filled with incredible energy. Cotton does not let being paraplegic slow him down one bit, he is like a lightning bolt moving across the lobby!
I have been a happy lobby resident for 2 years, and I still cherish the freedom I have to explore and to find new nap locations. We have a giant round bed in the lobby that could probably fit a dinosaur. We take turns laying on it. When I am on the “dino-bed,” I look like a miniature Rose stuffed animal.
The other day my correspondent came to volunteer and work with me on this month’s update. She shared a tube of Churu with me. “Churu churu” means “slurp slurp”—which, in cat language translates as purr-fectly delicious. We cats can lick it straight from the tube, lap it from a bowl, or enjoy it mixed in with food to make meals extra tasty. I licked every morsel of it from her finger, even nibbled her finger to be sure I got it all, yummy! Later in the afternoon she planned to take pictures for this update, but could not find me. Out of thin air, I appeared on the reception counter. She had never seen me on the counter and is still trying to figure out how I was able to get up there. “Rose magic” is all I will say. I also took my first selfie with my correspondent, never realized I had such a pink tongue.
My ears must be bionic because I am able to hear conversations over yonder. Guess what I overheard? The staff was discussing the Aged to Purrfection program. I love being in the program! In my heart, I can feel that my senior friends miss me, and I really miss them. There are talks of doing video visits to virtually bring the senior residents into Tabby’s Place to see their favorite cats! I will be first in line and share more details when they are confirmed. If this was not awesome enough, Tabby’s Place is pairing up volunteers with seniors who are a bit lonely and would love a pen pal (which we are calling ‘pet pals.’). My heart is bursting, I am so proud of the Tabby’s Place staff for bringing so much happiness and love to others during the pandemic.
With the world still turned upside down, my correspondent was not able to celebrate my 7th birthday in person. That did not stop her from getting me a birthday card. She held onto the card until she was asked back and read it to Cotton and me.
You are probably wondering about my health update. You are not the only one, and the best way to describe it is “perplexing.” I have not felt like myself this month. A good note is that I am eating well and even gained a healthy bit of weight. The volunteer feeders are like my personal chefs. If I do not like a specific kind of wet cat food, they will bring me another to try.
My correspondent helped feed last Saturday and I thought I was on a cruise ship with a buffet! The staff has been keeping a close eye on me and ran bloodwork. Everything came back normal, so I have an appointment at the vet this week. Tabby’s Place staff will not stop until they learn what is going on and how to make me feel better. I really thank you for being my sponsor. Your generosity and love allow me to get the best medical care in the world!
Since I wear a diapie during the day I enjoy frequent bottom baths which leave me smelling as sweet as a tall glass of sweet tea on a summer’s day. This week I had a bubble bath. Enjoy the picture of me with bubbles on my head!
Enjoy the rest of your summer, soak in the sunshine. Sending you sweet whisker kisses…
Love, Rose
