Update for Pepita

Update for Pepita

Holiday Greetings to Team Pepita!

Pepita has been in good health and spirits (for the most part) this month.  Even the kitties seem to know when one of their own heads to the Rainbow Bridge. After over a decade at Tabby’s Place, our dear Adam from Pepita’s suite was promoted to heaven.  Adam was a fixture at Tabby’s Place but had been growing frailer and the health issues were quite serious. Though Pepita isn’t particularly close buddies with anyone in her suite, she and Adam always got along amiably, so for sure she is missing his presence.

However, this is a season of joy, and Tabby’s Place is feeling it in spades. The lobby is decorated and the holiday photo shoots have taken place, compliments of our skilled volunteer photographers. Gifts for the kitties magically show up from kind donors and there is a special buzz in the air. Potential adopters whiz in and out, seeking the perfect match for their family. The only thing missing is a Santa Claus, but perhaps we can request that our esteemed Executive Director play the part. The fur babies would be delighted!

As Pepita has gotten a bit older, I see that she is not enjoying the cold weather as much as in the past (and it has been very cold the last few weeks), so she is more often found napping in a cubby indoors rather than braving the cold in the solarium.  The heated water bowls and heated beds make it more comfortable in the solariums, but when the wind whips up, I can see why the furry ones want to be inside.

Your sweet girl seems to be enjoying her Whisker Wednesday visits with the Evolve group, but for a little while, she is taking a break from the Aged to Purrfection program to visit the seniors. And once again, ringworm strikes Suite A again!  Steven, sweet and gentle, was suspicious for ringworm, so the protocols are now back in place, so some of the hugging and loving on Pepita is, unfortunately, also taking a break.

This is the month to relish in the joy of the season, to take in all the Hallmark holiday movies you can handle, to bake cookies, to play holiday music long and loud, to decorate the tree, to light the Menorah, to play Dreidel, or to savor whatever traditions are dear to you and your family.   I love this sentiment captured in my favorite Christmas song, Old City Bar by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra:

If you want to arrange itThis world, you can change itIf we could somehowMake this Christmas thing lastBy helping a neighborOr even a strangerTo know who needs help,You need only just ask

It reminds me of your steadfast love for Pepita and how you make Christmas last for her and for Tabby’s Place through your generosity all year round. Every time we think about you and the difference you make in Pepita’s life, it is like Christmas all over again.  Know that you hold a special place in our hearts.

Pepita and I, and everyone at Tabby’s Place, are wishing you the most magical holiday season enjoying those traditions you love with those close to you, both humans and fur babies.
